Amelia / Emilia-how many do you know?

DD due in July and the front runner name at the mo is Amelia.

I have two questions!
Firstly, how many little Amelias do you know? It topped the name poll the last couple of years but has dropped (only a bit) recently. I'm wondering if/hoping the burst of popularity will have put people off it? I don't overly care, but guess I'd prefer her not to be one of four in her class for example.

Secondly, I prefer the nickname Emmie to Millie and therefore quite like Emilia. Does it sound a bit "trying to be different" or is it justifiably a name in its own right?

Thanks so much

It is a name in its own right. I know 4 with an A and 2 with an E.

CrispyFern · 03/03/2015 17:05

Three with E, three with A!

Bobian123 · 03/03/2015 17:15

Belazu84 · 03/03/2015 17:47

1 little 1 grown up, both with an A. I prefer Emilia and Emmy.

M1st · 03/03/2015 17:58

Emilia is the shakespearian way isnt it?
I know quite a few.

Sophronia · 03/03/2015 18:04

I know two. I prefer Emilia to Amelia.

Bobian123 · 03/03/2015 18:05

M1st-yes I think you're right! DH will like that Smile

Is it silly to be bothered that there are lots around if I really like the name?

I teach two - one of each - in the same y2 class.
Think there are 1 or 2 more in the infants.
Know of a couple more - again one of each - who are probably about y5 or y6 now.

morethanpotatoprints · 03/03/2015 18:05

I personally know 2 Amelia but hear the name often when out and about. it is very popular here.

I haven't heard of an Emilia, we live in N West if this makes any difference.
It's beautiful though and I prefer it to Amelia.

GERTgert06 · 03/03/2015 18:11

I know one Emilia. Age - mid twenties, nickname Mila.

StandoutMop · 03/03/2015 18:16

I have an 8yo Amelia. There is one more in her year at school (4 form entry). There is another at her Brownies.

Don't know any Emilias but there are at least 4 Amelie s in her and dc2s year.

Round here the heavy multiples are Isla, Ruby, Lily and isabel (in the 5-9 age range).

turdfairynomore · 03/03/2015 18:19

None! It mustn't have reached NI!!

Lunastarfish · 03/03/2015 18:20

I think Emilia is spanish.

I know one Amelia and one Emilia.

OutragedFromLeeds · 03/03/2015 19:28

I know several. I don't know if they spell it with an E or an A though.

I also know;

Emmie x 1 (she's just Emmie)
Amelie x 2
Emily/Emille x 5

Ludways · 03/03/2015 19:58

3 with A, all get Millie
4 with E
And 2 Amelie's too.

higgidypiesarethebusiness · 03/03/2015 20:08

I know 3 Amelias, aged 4, 18 months and 3 months. I don't know any Emilias

How about Mila instead? Trendy but not overly popular.

AnneOfCleavage · 03/03/2015 20:09

2 x Amelia
1 x Emilia
1 x Emi
1x Milly
3 x Amelie
1x Amalie

littleangel1006 · 03/03/2015 23:08

The crown princess of the Netherlands is called Amalia. She'll be queen someday.

I don't know any in person though.

fizzycolagurlie · 04/03/2015 03:14

My DD was going to be an Amy until I found out (7.5 years ago now) that it was super popular. So she got a different name.

Amelia is a lovely name and Emilia too - not much variation between them, really.

pinkie87 · 04/03/2015 08:30

I love this name. Did prefer Amelia but Emilia is much less common, so totally torn now.

WhispersOfWickedness · 04/03/2015 08:35

I know two Amelias and one Emilia age 4 and under. Emilia is lovely Smile

FunMitFlags · 04/03/2015 09:09

Emilia x 1
Amelia x 3
Amelie x 5
Mimi (short for one of these but I don't recall which) x 1
