Which names do you IRRATIONALLY dislike?

This is not certainly not meant to be a "bitchy names thread". The emphasis is on the word IRRATIONAL. i.e. there are some names that are perfectly innocuous, lots of other people like them, I've known some lovely people with those names (so no obvious bad associations) BUT for some reason I've always disliked them. Would be interested in hearing anyone else's bugbear names!

ANNA - just too symmetrical, and (to my ears) smug and boring

LUCINDA - I like Lucy, but for some reason the "inda" really turns me off this name

Anything with "BELLE"on the end.Annabelle, Isabelle etc Pretty on paper, but I just don't like the sound for some reason

BEATRICE again irrational, but the combination of sounds just doesn't do it for me, it does the opposite of "trip off the tongue"

This is not meant to be in any way offensive. My 3 children have really "Marmite" names, and I don't mind at all that some people don't like them.
I just think everyone finds that certain sounds "jar" with them. Do others find this?

On a different note, the Baby Names topic is brilliant and I have been a long time lurker!

Tyler, Jayden, Harrison, Kelsie (will be naughty kids who are sassy in a bad way), Kai, Mia (those two are not even words imo), Teagan (where the ACTUAL FUCK did that name come from anyway?) all enrage me.

OhBuggeringBollocks · 25/10/2014 19:50

Lorna - no idea why. Love Laura though

Lucked · 25/10/2014 19:51

Ilov3 no not an E.

teaandalemon I take it you aren't a westwing fan then! Those names will always have a special place in my heart.

Ilovenicesoap · 25/10/2014 19:51

Amelia -ugh
So bloody prissy !

verelab · 25/10/2014 19:54

Wow, what a response! Thanks for all your replies. So interesting that what "sings"for one person "grates" for another.

Btw Whoever said Chloe - yes, that's another on my list. Very stuck-in-the-throat sound. I know a lovely one though.

Yes also to Toby - just too cutesy. And definitely a dog's name. Also loads around at the moment.

I can't stand Ellen, even though I like Helen and Ella.

I cannot bear Noah and Seth.

Oh, and I dislike a lot of old lady/old man names.

CPtart · 25/10/2014 19:55

Noah.

cruikshank · 25/10/2014 19:57

I don't like Laura because I always type it Larua and have to correct it. See? Larua.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/10/2014 19:58

Going back to what the OP asked - names you dislike irrationally, as opposed to names you don't like for a specific reason (threads doing that get pretty horrible, pretty quickly). I would say;

Imogen
Grace
Alice
Olivia
Oliver
Pippa
Petra
Arron/Aaron (unless pronounced Air-On)
Louis

No reasons, they are all popular names & I can't say why I don't like any of them - but just don't.

cruikshank · 25/10/2014 20:01

Oh yes and OP I also never liked 'Beatrice', especially with a Northern or Brummie accent because that makes it sound like the word 'dreary', but when I lived in a Spanish-speaking country where it was fairly common, I got to like it because they pronounced it 'Bay-ah-TREES' which was much nicer. Dunno if that's the 'proper' pronunciation or not because don't know the origin.

BlueBrightBlue · 25/10/2014 20:02
