Which names do you IRRATIONALLY dislike?

This is not certainly not meant to be a "bitchy names thread". The emphasis is on the word IRRATIONAL. i.e. there are some names that are perfectly innocuous, lots of other people like them, I've known some lovely people with those names (so no obvious bad associations) BUT for some reason I've always disliked them. Would be interested in hearing anyone else's bugbear names!

ANNA - just too symmetrical, and (to my ears) smug and boring

LUCINDA - I like Lucy, but for some reason the "inda" really turns me off this name

Anything with "BELLE"on the end.Annabelle, Isabelle etc Pretty on paper, but I just don't like the sound for some reason

BEATRICE again irrational, but the combination of sounds just doesn't do it for me, it does the opposite of "trip off the tongue"

This is not meant to be in any way offensive. My 3 children have really "Marmite" names, and I don't mind at all that some people don't like them.
I just think everyone finds that certain sounds "jar" with them. Do others find this?

On a different note, the Baby Names topic is brilliant and I have been a long time lurker!

Not even RTFT yet and I've had mentioned: my 4 grandparents, mum, dad, sister, brother, in-laws, various aunt/uncles/cousins, DH, all my nieces & nephews and all 3 DCs!
Do I win the thread?
Mine are Ethan (long shit hair), Chloe (twee), Amanda/Manda/Mandy (loud & annoying), Jayden/Kayden/Braydon/etc (obvs) and names that are other things - flowers, places, occupations, etc (Jasmine, Poppy, Brooklyn, Mason). Irrational I know.
Also Harper

Agree - Archie and Alfie

I loathed the name Sarah for ages, to the extent that I would take an automatic dislike to anyone with that name. My best friend these days is a Sarah!

Can't bear my own name, tbh (very 60s/70s name).

Not keen on Amanda, though I know a lovely one, and Gemma always sounds gormless, though again, I know a very nice one.

Katy with a 'y'.

There are no names I actually dislike. But for example there are far too many Alfie, Harrys and Charlies. It seems as though they are the only names that exist.
It's more if a name suits a person or not,
And I think you can like a name on one person but not on another eg. I know two Lily. I love it on one of them but despise it on the other

RL20 · 31/12/2014 15:29

Chaletian, your comment made me laugh! I know an Ethan with "long shit hair" and his mum is Amanda- "loud and gobby!" Did make me laugh.

I agree with names that somebody else mentioned- Alfie is one of my least favourites. As I'm struggling for boys names at the moment, I've realised how many boys names I actually dislike!!

As for girls names, I don't dislike the name but there are SO many these days it's become really common - Lily-Mae or Lily-May. So common infact that if I ever hear someone with a "Lily" I automatically assume that their name must be Lily-May.

RL20 · 31/12/2014 15:32

Lynette- I know what you mean with the Geoffrey-Jeffery thing as I love the name Jorge.. But I don't like George? I was thinking about it as I'm expecting a baby boy, but then I thought, without people seeing it wrote down, at the end of the day it is still "George", how ever it's spelt! Lol

CecilyP · 31/12/2014 15:50

Nigel and Brenda

Not sure if I'm irrational or not.

MamaLazarou · 01/01/2015 10:39

Evie.

It's everywhere. Always makes me think of 'Evil'.

Alfie.

A tiny skinhead in a football shirt.

Chloe, Nicola

These two were very popular when we were naming DD (1992 born) and DH was really keen. I was really adverse to them.
I think they are acceptable and wouldn't think twice meeting someone with them, but I would not name my DD them ever. I think Chloe sounds strange and Nicola looks like Ni-cola to me, I can't get past the 'cola' bit!!
