Im more concerned that someone had to google the missing link than that the OP wants to call her child Link.

Its not to my taste but its not the worst name ive ever heard. I do know a Lincoln though who gets called Linc so i may be used to it more than some posters.

Hakluyt · 04/09/2014 20:33

Me too. And explaining that it was because she was in her early 20s. As if somehow Darwin has gone out of fashion..........

Leeds2 · 04/09/2014 20:38

Yuk!

fairyteepee · 04/09/2014 20:39

I love Link OP Smile Many hours of N64 happiness playing Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask will always make it a hero's name to me. It's got a good strong feeling about it, and I don't think it's any less 'out there' than some of the arty-farty names that are so popular these days (Ptolomy, Mungo, Arlo, Buster, etc etc).
If you love it, go for it. As others have said, it's only odd for the first time people hear it, after that it's just Link's name Smile

tmae · 04/09/2014 23:45

My mum was told by people not to use my name because I would be bullied, I've never been bullied, I've only ever had nice comments about my unusual name. All of my siblings have unusual names too and none of them have been bullied over them either.

fairyteepee · 05/09/2014 21:47

Thank you for the positive comments Smile

It is perhaps the negative ones you should pay more attention to, given it isn't you who will have to live with the name for a minimum of 18 years.

Any middle names planned?

Only1scoop · 05/09/2014 22:30

You asked for opinions....hopefully you appreciate not only the Link Loving ones....

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 11:43

I don't see any issue with the name Link, there are of plenty of 'acceptable names' out there that i wouldn't dream of giving someone. My brother is called James and has always hated his name but noone would of said to my mum 'you cant call him that, that's ridiculous' so you cant always win anyway.

We all have different opinions i appreciate all of your contributions but ultimately the decision will be swayed by what me and my husband feel is the name we want to give to our child, not what mumsnetters think.

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 11:44

middle name will be Edward (family name) you will all be reassured to know he has a perfectly 'normal' alternantive Grin

Only1scoop · 06/09/2014 11:53

Glad to hear it Op. Glad you have come to a near decision.

But please don't let him out of your sight at the swings....

Of course it will be governed by your tastes not ours. But why start a thread asking what people think if you don't want to hear that most dislike it. Were you hoping that everyone would adore it and encourage you? If you have unusual taste and don't care what others think , why ask?

Only1scoop · 06/09/2014 12:00

Yes seems you did sort of want to form your own Link appreciation society and sod off those of us who aren't ....

LinkedIn Smile

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 12:00

Ive already said i was just curious to see the general take on it. Can i not start a thread unless im going to change my mind based on what you all say?

OP posts:
Only1scoop · 06/09/2014 12:02

'Husband said i could pick a special name to me'

Jolly decent of him

I think we all do that in some respect though when we name our dc.

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 12:03

He's a jolly decent man Smile

Only1scoop · 06/09/2014 12:05

Actually ....stick with Link....

Sounds jolly perfect.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 06/09/2014 12:06

Of course you can start a thread, but why would you? What purpose does it serve to now know that probably most people will dislike your son's name on first hearing?

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 12:23

Why does it bother you so much that you keep posting asking why i started this thread? Some people on this site are so easily riled, it really doesn't effect your life what i call my child nor why i asked for opinions so please go and enjoy your saturday.

OP posts:
PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 06/09/2014 12:41

I am neither riled nor bothered. Just mildly curious why someone would start a thread asking opinions on a name when they have no intention of listening if they are negative.

I do think you thought you would get a chorus of 'wow, lovely and so unique' and are a bit peeved that you didn't. Hence latching on to everyone who likes it.

And on that note I shall indeed hide the thread and go back to my Saturday.

fairgame · 06/09/2014 12:44

I think it would look more like a name rather than a word if it's spelt Linc.

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 12:50

I've listened i just found as the thread went on i don't actually care that others don't like it.

i am thinking maybe linc in spelling fairgame

fairyteepee · 06/09/2014 12:55

Linc is a cancer research charity i just found upon googling it.
