First thing on Thursday morning and no name for 3 day old ds. I am alone in deciding as have separated from husband and he has given the 'go ahead' for me to choose. I feel this adds to the weight of responsibility. Also I am extremely unused to making decisions alone so am hoping for some further suggestions here!

So far I have:
Kitson
Rufus (the primary school child in me is singing 'Rufus the doofus')
Cassian/Cassius
Pascal (but there is an Easter connection, so not sure).

Middle name will be John, surname is the first word of the dreaded DM newspaper.

He has dark hair and skin and deep brown eyes, so can't imagine him being called Casper. DS has already nicknamed him Chip and I fear I may just go with this if I can't decide!

Cassius or Rufus....both are stunning. If I had to pick one it would be Cassius!

JoyceDivision · 15/07/2014 23:31

Cassius is my fave Smile

Congratulations btw to you, and to your DS on becoming a big brother

AuditAngel · 15/07/2014 23:32

I have a nephew called Cassius. He chose it and changed his name by deed poll. A very cool name.

BeyoncesCat · 15/07/2014 23:34

Cassius!! Love it congratulations on the new baby Smile

HauntedNoddyCar · 15/07/2014 23:44

Of the options Cassius John sounds good.

Allalonenow · 15/07/2014 23:52

Cassius.

(They are all great names though)

TheCraicDealer · 15/07/2014 23:55

With Cassius, Chip isn't too far of a stretch as nicknames go!

Congratulations, he sounds adorably smooshy Smile

SillyTillyTilly · 16/07/2014 01:07

Rufus is super! Is 'doofus' a term in common currency amongst today's youngsters Grin I've never heard it if so.

I didn't register until the 12th hour and the end of (what used to be anyway) allowed six weeks to register. Just in case we changed our minds.

justhayley · 16/07/2014 01:54

Give yourself a break, there's no need to register baby so quickly after birth. I couldn't remember my own name a week after giving birth let alone decide on my sons. Try out a few names on him for a day each & see what fits - that's the only way I make a final choice & was sure it was the right one. (DS wasn't named till he was 5 weeksBlush). Happy I waited. He ended up with a name I hadn't even considered but it was and still is so right for him (now 2) I'm glad I wait (& waited and waited).
You'l find a name. In the meantime take the pressure off, cancel the appointment & find your feet first xxx

Rooflesstoofless · 16/07/2014 06:31

You're all lovely, thank you! He's beautiful and has arrived after a very difficult time.

We have a holiday booked abroad in 6 weeks so the little chap will need a passport. That's the reason I feel so pressured. I have told myself if I pick something I'm not happy with I can change it - but would like to get it right.

I really love names that you can get lots of nicknames from, and I'm not keen on classic names. I keep coming back to Kit as it is such a lovely name but I really feel he should have more options, and can't use Christopher (DB's name).

Of course you can used your brother name . But knownn in the famliy as chip or kit .

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 16/07/2014 06:41

Id just have Kit tbh. A name such as Paul is the "full version" of the name yet offers no scope whatsoever for flexibility.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 16/07/2014 06:45

Sorry, they are all awful. Could John not be the first name?

Aciderwouldbenice · 16/07/2014 06:55

What about Christian with Kit as his NN?

buttercrumble · 16/07/2014 06:59

Rufus and Cassius are both georgeous Smile

ColdCottage · 16/07/2014 07:11

I was so tired the first few days that although we had a short list of two names and I was 90% sure on one, there was no way I was going to decide on such a huge thing until I'd had a chance to feel a little more human.

We actually decided after 5 or 6 days but waited until 5 weeks to go and register him just to be sure.

There is no rush. It sounds like you have a lot going on, on top of having a new baby.

Give yourself a break and re book the appointment for a few weeks time.

Take care of yourself. All will be fine, just enjoy your new baby and worry about registering him a little later Smile

fanjodisfunction · 16/07/2014 07:38

I think cassius to.

burgatroyd · 16/07/2014 07:40

Good luck! Cassius or Kit vote

HenI5 · 16/07/2014 08:06

There is a rush, OP needs to apply for his passport.

Kit is my favourite, not keen on the other options.
Maybe extend John to Jonathan to balance the shorter name?

thelastslayer · 16/07/2014 08:14

I LOVE Kitson! it flows really well with your middle name and surname.

btw, you absolutely can go for Christopher and then you'd have CJ as an alternative nickname to Kit Smile Smile

Oriunda · 16/07/2014 09:20

Christopher (Kit) John is a lovely name. I think your db would be honoured.

janie2 · 16/07/2014 11:44

Kit is great and can't see why Christopher would be a problem!

I also like Rufus or Cassius.

You'll find a name don't worry Smile

NadiaWadia · 16/07/2014 12:18

Cassius and Rufus are both great names and my favourites on your list.

Pascal is OK, but always sounds a bit girly to me (probably because I vaguely know a female one, although I think spelling is different, but pronunciation the same?)

Kitson is Not a Proper Name. I hate surnames for first names anyway. I would use another way of getting Kit as a nickname, eg Christopher.

sonlypuppyfat · 16/07/2014 12:28

Why not John as his first name. A John will never let you down, it's a good strong manly name. Whenever I see cassius I think as in Clay.

curiousgeorgie · 16/07/2014 12:30

I love Kitson! As soon as I read it I tried it out with my own surname Wink

And nn Kit is brilliant and really travels through different ages.

It's perfect.
