I'm not sure how long this full list has been out for but I always find it fascinating!

There are so many wacky names on there. You can really see language evolving (phonetic spellings) and increasing diversity (the Eastern European and African names) in society just by reading the list.

I was trying to spot what names are absent. It's quite hard looking for something that isn't there!

Since the trend on mn is to find names no one else in the child's class will have I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread on missing names.

These are the ones I've spotted.

Add any others you can think of.

(I'm starting with girls)

I don't think Isis will be used anytime soon!

MrsPretoria · 15/07/2014 14:15

I would hope some of them never return.. Phyllis! Imelda! No!

Artandco · 15/07/2014 14:32

I know toddler marina, tatiana, Estelle and an Apollo! All under 4 years so def must be used in England if not Scotland

Passthebiscuitspls · 15/07/2014 14:51

This is really useful! Is there one of these lists for England does anyone know?
Xx

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/07/2014 16:24

As far as I am aware, the English list doesn't cover any names used less than 3 times (to do with privacy I think), clearly us Scots couldn't care less about that :o. They are available to that level though somewhere.

My son is very rarely on the list. i've checked the lists when available (a couple of years I couldn't manage to find the really low level one) since he was born and there have been 4 others in nearly 13 years :)

The other name we were going to use which we didn't as we weren't sure it was even a name and the pronunciation where we were living at the time wasn't very nice, is actually more popular and there have been over 20 over the same period - I can't open the link at the moment, but sure when I looked there were 3 this year alone.

I wonder if maybe Deirdre might be missing? - I haven't come across a little Deirdre :)

Needaninsight · 15/07/2014 16:26

ahhww a little Doris would be cute!

weatherall · 15/07/2014 19:58

Marina and Estella are usually on the list.

I was surprised they were missing.

I know of babies/toddlers called Virginia and Marina. I think Clare/Claire will come back in a big way one day, it's so simple and pretty, victim of its own popularity in the 80s I guess.

I'm not a Clare btw, just musing!

StetsonsAreCool · 15/07/2014 20:10

Strawberry, I know of an Isis born 3 weeks ago. Her mother is either stupid or cruel. I'm inclined to think both given that she's my friend's DH's OW.

Sootgremlin · 15/07/2014 20:11

I've also seen Dorothy (Dolly) a couple of times recently too.

micah · 15/07/2014 20:17

I know of several Isis. (Isisis?)

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/07/2014 20:21

There is a Lucifer on the boys list - actually a nice sounding name but you really can't, can you.......? And I speak as an atheist! :o

Meglet · 15/07/2014 20:23

Maybe they haven't watched the news for the last couple of months Confused.

It's almost like naming a baby Myra (I wonder if they exist).

bouncingbelle · 15/07/2014 20:31

Bridie
Diane

Trevor

Trondheim · 15/07/2014 20:32

Glad to see my name has equal popularity with the name 'Ho'.

Pangaea · 15/07/2014 20:33

Hilary is my all time favourite girls name.

Realitybitesyourbum · 15/07/2014 20:34

Wow OP, you have a lot of time on your hands, don't you?!

YellowStripe · 15/07/2014 20:34

I know of a little Phyllis!

ToddleWaddle · 15/07/2014 20:38

Saw an Isis perfume in M&S today.

StrangeGlue · 15/07/2014 20:39

Thomasina and tamsin are missing too I think. Can anyone link to the uk full list (someone up thread mentioned it covers all names used more than 3 times) as I can only find the top 100 lists (and the most recent seems to be 2012)

StrangeGlue · 15/07/2014 20:40

Argh I meant English - doh!

AnythingNotEverything · 15/07/2014 20:45

I think the 2013 list will be out in August, and agree about the fewer than 3 being omitted for reasons of privacy.

teacherwith2kids · 15/07/2014 20:54

I know a young Isis.

I'm surprised by Clare [what about Claire?], Janet and Carol - all very 'normal' names which i know adult versions of and it has never struck me that they are 'unusually old-fashioned' (unlike, say, Phyllis, which is a name i have only encountered in the over 80s!)

letsplaynice · 15/07/2014 20:56

I hate these lists always make me regret dd name cos it's ridiculously common now

MollyBdenum · 15/07/2014 21:01

I know 2 toddler Athenas, a Sylvie and a Dorothy.
