I'm not sure how long this full list has been out for but I always find it fascinating!

There are so many wacky names on there. You can really see language evolving (phonetic spellings) and increasing diversity (the Eastern European and African names) in society just by reading the list.

I was trying to spot what names are absent. It's quite hard looking for something that isn't there!

Since the trend on mn is to find names no one else in the child's class will have I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread on missing names.

These are the ones I've spotted.

Add any others you can think of.

(I'm starting with girls)

Mostly what I'd think of as old fashioned names but some modern ones too.

I wonder if these will be trendy again in 20 years (hope not!)

And I wouldn't expect to find any girl Appollos or Ambroses.

Table of all names used in England and Wales for 3 or more babies for 2012 are in this link - it's Table 6 you are looking for:

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 15/07/2014 21:41

There is a Pirrelli on the girl's list. Pirrelli. Like the tyre.

manicinsomniac · 16/07/2014 00:06

Isis is always being suggested on here. I don't know any personally but can't see anything wrong with it. It's a nice enough name.

That absence list is quite surprising

lecherrs · 16/07/2014 00:12

I also know a child Isis.

I also know a baby born in the last year with one of the names on the list. But we live in England, not Scotland.

burgatroyd · 16/07/2014 09:54

Doris is mega cute!

SillyTillyTilly · 16/07/2014 13:11

I'm with reality. You must have a lot of spare time on your hands Grin

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 16/07/2014 14:27

So many names with an arterisk. Sad

weatherall · 16/07/2014 14:53

Well I haven't had enough time to do the absent boys list yet Grin

The asterisks are Sad. I don't know if that's new, I've not noticed it before.

I imagine since England is 10x size of Scotland there will be names used there that aren't used here more than vice versa. But with then not giving every name then you can't know if your name is truly unique that year.

There are loads of people who don't watch the news or read papers and who won't be aware of ISIS.

I quite like the name so I think it'd be a shame if it stopped being used.

I know a little Isis. Her parents are neither stupid nor cruel, what a comment.
Isis is the name of an Egyptian goddess.

StetsonsAreCool · 16/07/2014 18:41

To give your child that name in the week that ISIS were all over the news is at best ill thought out. Stand by my comment that this particular woman is both stupid and cruel though. Not all parents of Isises are, one would imagine.

I'm not so sure how reliable this is because I know that Dorothy, Phyllis and viola were used, (names of friends and families' babies) sorry to be annoying!!

Which list guineapig?

The lists come from the Registrars Office - were they born in 2013?

ScrambledEggAndToast · 17/07/2014 20:35

Hehe, some names on there are funny and I couldn't imagine a 3 year old being called that across the park. Probably best not to mention the ones I am sniggering at in case I offend anyone.

guineapig2014 · 18/07/2014 08:19

Yes, myotherusernameisbetter a Dorothy was definitely used in 2013.

myotherusernameisbetter · 18/07/2014 08:58

That's very odd then guineapig. You'd think that the Registrars records would be acurate.

Was the baby registered in Scotland? Registered in 2013 as opposed to born in 2013? and is Dorothy her first name rather than being Margaret Dorothy or something but known as Dorothy?

bouncingbelle · 18/07/2014 12:29

I think these lists only include babies registered up until the middle of November.

WhiteHairReally · 18/07/2014 20:47

On the subject of the 'official' lists , ONS etc. Does anyone know whether they count all the names a child is registered with or just the first one? Often wondered, as DD's name appeared quite high up the list the year she was born, but it is still quite rare to come across others of her vintage. It was however, very popular, and remains so, as a middle name. Think May or Rose.

guineapig2014 · 18/07/2014 21:33

Hi myotherusernameisbetter, yes the child was born in 2013 and registered in England in 2013. Also her first is Dorothy and then she has a normal middle name and surname!!!

myotherusernameisbetter · 18/07/2014 23:11

Ahhh - well if it's England then it's the 2nd link but they don't count names used fewer than 3 times on that one.

The first link by the OP with all the individual names is Scotland so wouldn't include your Dorothy :)

FelixFelix · 18/07/2014 23:13

I have a Sylvie! Although it's 'Silvie' on your list.

myotherusernameisbetter · 18/07/2014 23:15

guineapig there are 58 Dorothys on the England and Wales list, just none in Scotland :)
