What do you think of our girl's name?

Not sure I dare ask this as my OH is so set on it but I'm currently 8 days overdue and curious to know what people think of our girl's name, which we've deliberated over for months.

Names we've discounted for one reason or another include Iris, Matilda, Esther and Eva. The name we both love is Mabel although I do have my doubts about how this will suit different ages. We struggled for a suitable middle name until, in a last ditch effort, we came across the name Wynn.

So if we have a girl her name will be Mabel Wynn, which means 'lovable friend'. This would be to go with our little girl, Martha Beatrice, whose name means 'lady who brings happiness'.

Carefully considered thoughts welcomed please.

Thanks.

i love mabel. really hate iris. it's so harsh and sharp.

DramaAlpaca · 11/06/2014 00:04

To be completely honest it's not to my taste, but I think it goes beautifully with your daughter's name & I absolutely love the meaning.

I picked DS3's middle name for the meaning Smile. It's a nice name, but the meaning was what sold it to me.

ThingsThatShine · 11/06/2014 00:05

I love your DDs name and Mabel goes nicely with it. Congrats :)

Nereida · 11/06/2014 00:13

I really like Mabel and think Wynn goes well with it as a middle name. I love all your discounted choices too.

Fideliney · 11/06/2014 00:26

Wynn is really lovely and due a revival. Mabel is pretty too. They combine really really well Smile

OutragedFromLeeds · 11/06/2014 00:43

I quite like it. Although I knew a girl at school named Mabel who hated it so much she changed it as soon as she could (properly, legally changed it). That's was before the resurgence of those sort of names though.

I also think it sounds too 'matchy' with Martha.

Mutteroo · 11/06/2014 02:06

I adore the name Mabel! Never used to like it but its one of those which has grown on me. also love Eva however it has become incredibly popular which I do not like. Wynn is a beautiful middle name as is Martha.

Let us know what you decide THIS77

JimmyCorkhill · 11/06/2014 05:48

It's lovely. My best friend at school had Wynn as a middle name. You've made me smile at the memory Smile

Mabel and Martha sound lovely together and the meanings of both names are fabulous.

Plus you have May or Belle as nickname options.

Montsti · 11/06/2014 09:22

I'm not a big fan of the name, Mabel but we all have different name styles and I do think it works with your other child's name and the middle name, Wynn.

wonderpants · 11/06/2014 09:29

I love it!

HavantGuard · 11/06/2014 09:53

Martha is really lovely. I don't think Mabel is anywhere near as nice.

EyelinerQueen · 11/06/2014 09:56

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

Mabel is even prettier than Martha and the two go together perfectly.

Well done Grin

bucylen · 11/06/2014 10:03

Ooh lovely. They complement each other perfectly.
Congratulations, too.

soontobeslendergirl · 11/06/2014 10:26

It's lovely, one of my favourites at the moment.

squoosh · 11/06/2014 11:09

I don't like the name Mabel at all. To me it's so frumpy and down at heel, I imagine some whey faced drudge scrubbing the floors at Downton Abbey.

Mabel would scour the pots while Martha attended the balls.

But that's just me and lots of other people clearly love it!

(I like all the names you discounted though)

50shadesofknackered · 11/06/2014 12:31

I love Mabel. I also like Iris , Matilda and Eva, I Don't like Esther tho. I think Mabel Wynn is beautiful.

Provencalroseparadox · 11/06/2014 12:43

Love Mabel and I know one who turned 16 a couple of days ago

Needadvice5 · 11/06/2014 12:44

I think it's a beautiful name but too similar to Martha!

Maybe you will decide on a name when she is born?

Ive always found it odd that people have a name bedw baby is born.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

Hopefully won't be much longer!

bouquetofpencils · 11/06/2014 23:19

Very jealous as Martha and Mabel are two of my favourite names, along with Marnie, Magda, Marielle and Margot.

However all M names were vetoed by DH due to him not wanting alliterative names (surname begins with M).

Please go with Mabel, lovely name.

Oooohhhh that's an unpretty old ladies name, doesn't matter what it means IMO as people will generally not know that. Mabel and Wynn are both unattractive.

I had a blind great great auntie and she was called miserable Mabel or Blind Old Auntie Mab (we were only small children - i do realise this may seem rather offensive now!)

SirBoobAlot · 12/06/2014 13:51

Beautiful name.

florascotia · 12/06/2014 14:16

I like Mabel. There is also an older version of it: Amabel.

quellerosiel · 12/06/2014 16:57

Ohh Mabel is lovely! I think will suit all ages nicely and can imagine a Mabel in many professions. Lovely with Wynn! Gorgeous combo.
