What do you think of our girl's name?

Not sure I dare ask this as my OH is so set on it but I'm currently 8 days overdue and curious to know what people think of our girl's name, which we've deliberated over for months.

Names we've discounted for one reason or another include Iris, Matilda, Esther and Eva. The name we both love is Mabel although I do have my doubts about how this will suit different ages. We struggled for a suitable middle name until, in a last ditch effort, we came across the name Wynn.

So if we have a girl her name will be Mabel Wynn, which means 'lovable friend'. This would be to go with our little girl, Martha Beatrice, whose name means 'lady who brings happiness'.

Carefully considered thoughts welcomed please.

Thanks.

Is Vesper a name? I only know it in relation to evening prayers.

Fideliney · 14/06/2014 22:17

Or mopeds.

TheCraicDealer · 14/06/2014 22:23

Vesper Lynd, female character in the James Bond series book and movie "Casino Royale".
Vesper Fairchild, a character from the Batman comics
Vesper Holly, the protagonist of a series of adventure novels by Lloyd Alexander

Okaaaay, so they're all fictional characters, but I do like it. It means 'evening star'.

I prefer Esther to Mabel tbh, and think Esther and Martha go beautifully together.

What are your boy choices out of interest?

Fideliney · 14/06/2014 22:26

Blimey Bond girls as name inspiration? That's a rich new seam to be mined.

MrsRuffdiamond · 14/06/2014 22:28

Mabel is my absolute favourite girl's name! If we'd had a girl, she would be Mabel Smile

Iamblossom · 14/06/2014 22:29

Maud is my favourite girls name. I have two boys but if I had a girl she would be a maud.

Fortheloveofralph · 14/06/2014 22:40

There's also maud and Maeve.

Fortheloveofralph · 14/06/2014 22:41

Ester is lovely

Molester, fester, polyester...just spoilt that name for me.

I know 2 little Mabels... They are both sweet, pretty and bright. Good choice. Smile

I'm glad someone commented on wyn being massively popular as a middle name in Wales.

THIS77 · 15/06/2014 08:23

I can live with Wynn being a popular Welsh name - I don't think we'll come across many where we live. I still think it's beautiful, with a great meaning. Love middle names like Grace, Rose and May but they are incredibly popular everywhere now.

I love love love it! I want to steal the names not having anymore

THIS77 · 18/06/2014 14:17

Thanks again everyone. Just to update, we finally had a little boy on the 16th. Went with Jude William in the end. Had a couple of family members tell us (quite strongly) since that they're so pleased it wasn't a Mabel! Still love the name though but our family is complete now.

I don't like it. (and before I get flamed we are being asked why we think and that is what I think).

poocatcherchampion · 18/06/2014 16:06

bit late starfish!

lovely boy's name OP and many congratulations!

MrsRuffdiamond · 18/06/2014 16:14

Congratulations Op! Lovely names. (Still think Mabel is fab as well!)

deepbluetr · 18/06/2014 16:21

Sorry I don't like it. I know it is very fashionable, but still reminds me of old maiden aunts and mothballs.

My niece has a Mabel, Matilda and a Maud. All in the same vein for me.
