Is Griffin a contender?

Ok! I am struggling hideously with a name for the little boy who is about to make a grand entrance in my life.

I have previous threads highlighting my 'issues' (crazy super rich and upper class Mil, wet husband rooting for the boring names, stupid stupid surname)

So...

Griffin House (does it sound a bit Harry Potterish)
Lysander House (Lice House??? Sandy House???)
Thomas House (sooooooo boring?)

Lysander and Thomas have been floating around, but never really loved etc. Griffin is new.

Help...

Johnathan Livingston Seagull.... yes....

Ah I love it now.

I think it's a good one.

Mrsfullhouse · 12/05/2014 11:42

Ordering Florian

Roderick Florian
I HATE autocorrect... But under the circumstances!

I think he needs Seagull as a middle name!

good luck ;-)

Only1scoop · 12/05/2014 11:43

Jonathan has a nice story associated with it in the bible ( you may not be religious but at least its a nice story, not Herod or Jezebel). He was a good friend - which seems a nice thing to wish on a baby.

Canidae · 12/05/2014 11:51

Good luck with little Jonty James Seagull House!

Mrsfullhouse · 12/05/2014 11:57

I have one more thing to say before Dh gets here (contractions thick and strong now!!)

Thank you Thank you Thank you for not letting me name my child Griffin House.

Although I'm not sure I'm going back to work, I probably would have been fired anyway!!!

I may as well have called him

'Griffin Farage White Supremecy Cameron Is A Douche House'

Thank god for the rationality of mumsnet versus the pregnant woman's hormonal mind!!!

And yes, already calling him Jonty James Seagull!!!!

Ds1 is King Arthur Pirate Pants so it fits nicely!!

Love love love!!!

"I may as well have called him

'Griffin Farage White Supremecy Cameron Is A Douche House'"

Although, now that you type the whole thing out... Grin

Twighlightsparkle · 12/05/2014 12:20

love the name Griffin.

I think it goes nicely with House.

saffronwblue · 12/05/2014 12:22

Good luck. Hope Jonathon James comes soon and easily.

saffronwblue · 12/05/2014 12:22

Pretty cool if you segue from a naming to a live birth thread!

Badvoc · 12/05/2014 12:27

Thomas

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2014 12:49

It is almost like he thought "great - my parents have finally agreed on an amazing name for me - I'm on my way before they change their minds"

Good luck.

StretchyCat · 12/05/2014 12:51

Oh sorry OP didn't notice you had picked a name! Jonathan James (Jonty) is lovely! Good luck! x

InspirationFailed · 12/05/2014 13:22

I am stupidly excited that you picked my suggestion from the thread Grin I have a Jonathan (Jonty) and he is fab.

Live labour thread too! Good luck!!

MaryWestmacott · 12/05/2014 13:30

Good luck! Jonty is super cool name!

If you are still reading, when you announce him, say "Jonty" not "Jonthan, to be known as Jonty" to everyone except MIL. My friend did this with "Elizabeth to be known as Beth" but actually told us all her DD was Beth, and later said that actually it was Elizabeth on the birth certificate. We've all got used to calling her Beth and that's all that anyone calls her, but if she'd been introduced as Elizabeth, I bet some people would have called her Liz or Lizzie.

Annouce Jonty, people will assume that's his name and it's not a NN for Jonathan.

(BTW - I put Jonathan into Google and got Jonathan Creek!)

florascotia · 12/05/2014 15:18

OP - very best wishes.

Jonathan James is a very good name.

Monkeyandanimal · 12/05/2014 15:24

How about a forrin name? I mean you could do a lovely Irish name or soemthing. Aidan? Owen/Eoghan? Declan? Daragh? Daragh House sounds great. Killian?

Monkeyandanimal · 12/05/2014 15:25

Whoops, just realised you have chosen a good solid name! Well done!

Nocomet · 12/05/2014 15:38

Perfect, James was my boys name (but I have two teen DDs instead) and Jonathan is my cousin's DS.

minipie · 12/05/2014 15:40

Well done mrsfullhouse hope little Jonty is here by now...

and if he takes a dislike to Jonty in future (y'know, when he goes through his teenage "I'm not posh" stage) he can always be James or JJ.

OublietteBravo · 12/05/2014 16:42

minipie I thought you were going to say:
and if he takes a dislike to Jonty in the future...
...show him this thread and point out how lucky he is that he didn't get called Griffin (or Ordering Florian) Wink
