Is this amount of name alliteration ridiculous?

So am 20 weeks pregnant and don't know the sex yet but would like opinions on our favoured girls name... Clara.

Both DH and I love the name but the problem is our surname - it's the same as Superman's first name! i.e. there's a huge amount of alliteration present.

Does this rule it out? If you heard this name would you think it ridiculous? I alternate between loving Clara so much that I feel it doesn't matter and then worrying we're saddling our baby with a daft name! Help!

Have avoided writing our surname to avoid the whole name being searchable Smile

Its too much, in my opinion. I think it would become very frustrating for her. Sorry!

Featherbag · 11/05/2014 16:30

Ooh no, it sounds awful when spoken together!

mineallmine · 11/05/2014 16:34

No, sorry, Clara is a lovely name but not with that surname.

Pooka · 11/05/2014 16:36

I love Clara. But I'm sorry - I really think the name combo doesn't work.

MortaIWombat · 11/05/2014 16:36

A bit much. How about Tara instead?

Greenandcabbagelooking · 11/05/2014 16:39

Or Kiera/Ciara.

ThePieSmuggler · 11/05/2014 16:40

Aaargh this is what I was afraid of Confused

I'm not keen on Tara, the rest of our girls list is:

Harriet (nn Hattie)
Rose
Violet
Molly (DH's choice, I think it's too popular)

Feel free to suggest any others in the same vein - proper names that aren't too popular

dp said personally I wouldn't do that to a child...
I don't think it's that bad, you could double barrel it?
Clara-rose
Clara- fae
Clara- Anne

FatalCabbage · 11/05/2014 16:42

Too similar, by far. 80% the same!

Some names I think have a similar elegant feel:

Anna
Ruth
Della
Olga
Alice
Lucy

Pebbles0934 · 11/05/2014 16:42

There is a character called Clara Cluck... Sounds very similar

alita7 · 11/05/2014 16:43

Or what about Kara, kiara or kiera?

ThePieSmuggler · 11/05/2014 16:44

Thanks Alita but I'm not keen on any of those, it isn't particularly the sound of the name I like, not much help is it!!

It would be fine if you added a name

Clara-Jane
Clara-May
Clara-Rae
Clarabell?

Thanks for the suggestions I'm not a fan of hyphenated names though Hmm

I'm convinced the perfect name is out there - we've just not found it yet! We never had this difficulty naming DD1, once we'd found her name that was it for both of us, maybe I'm being unrealistic expecting the same again!

kelda · 11/05/2014 16:51

I don't think they sound that bad together. Both names are fairly simple. I like the name Clara too.

Pandora452 · 11/05/2014 16:52

Cara or Carla are similar but don't have as bad alliteration

BikeRunSki · 11/05/2014 16:53

I usually love name alliteration (DD was nearly Kirsty (hard) C) , but sorry, not this one.

I love Harriet though.

Lara
Sara
Mara
Tara
Laura?

Only1scoop · 11/05/2014 16:55

Not with your surname sorry Hmm

Your choices are all lovely....not that keen on Molly but others nice.

How about

Florence
Annabel
Iris

SnapeAndLily · 11/05/2014 17:00

On the other hand, she would be spelling her first and surnames ahead of the rest of the class Smile

I like it... but I can see I'm in the minority. But then, if I'd've had a girl, I would have liked (though DH vetoed) the equivalent of Polly Poult
