Is this amount of name alliteration ridiculous?

So am 20 weeks pregnant and don't know the sex yet but would like opinions on our favoured girls name... Clara.

Both DH and I love the name but the problem is our surname - it's the same as Superman's first name! i.e. there's a huge amount of alliteration present.

Does this rule it out? If you heard this name would you think it ridiculous? I alternate between loving Clara so much that I feel it doesn't matter and then worrying we're saddling our baby with a daft name! Help!

Have avoided writing our surname to avoid the whole name being searchable Smile

Love Clara but not a huge fan of alliteration sorry.

ThePieSmuggler · 12/05/2014 10:54

I love Verity but DH isn't a fan, Beatrice was on the original list but a friend has just had a baby called Beatrix so it's not really a contender.

I think it's now between Harriet and Clara, although ask me again tomorrow and it might be a whole new story! Grin

OldCatLady I'm guilty of over thinking a lot of things, so your post rang true Grin

Rosa Clark is lovely xx

WomanScorned · 12/05/2014 22:22

I like it.
Puts me in mind of Clarice Cliff. I don't immediately think 'eek, ridiculously alliterative name' when I hear that, either :)

ScarlettSahara · 12/05/2014 22:46

Hi- I agree with others sorry. Think it is too much. I like Harriet though.
Just to throw into the mix:
Georgina
Emily
Rosa
Bella
Amelia

My name alliterates but I'm married and my parents didn't deliberately choose it to be this way. Some names sound okay, (I believe mine to be one of these), while others sound terrible. Sadly Clara Cl.... Doesn't sound good. Clara is a beautiful name though.

PPWAH · 13/05/2014 07:07

I love Harriet & Beatrice (Bea).

PPWAH · 13/05/2014 07:11

But actually I think Clara with your surname sounds fine. You could give her a middle name to break it up?

threedaystogo · 13/05/2014 09:57

Love the name Clara, but unfortunately not with your surname. It's sounds clunky together and I think people will trip over the pronunciation.

Love Harriet from your list. Otherwise how about Martha, Imogen, Pippa, Susannah (Susie) or Erin?

GwenStacy · 13/05/2014 09:59

I just mentioned this to my husband and he says go for it - he reckons it sounds like a kick ass sixties comic book heroine and he loves it :-D

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2014 10:38

What about:

Bess
Rosa
Cecily
Margot
Liv or Olivia
Florence (flo/florrie)

Harriet is beautiful and works nicely with your surname.

Having said that though, I really believe that if you love a name and it feels just right for little one, you absolutely have to choose it - you will feel a bit of regret if you don't and really who cares if some people don't like it - once she is 'Clara' she will just BE Clara and that's it, people won't think twice.

the only additional ones I have to add are:-

Mara
Nina
cecilia

I like the suggested name, sounds good and also memorable

FatalCabbage · 13/05/2014 20:38

Congratulations on your successful scan.

Kent's off the list then? Grin

Frikadellen · 13/05/2014 22:37

OP I feel for you dh and I love the name Flora but our surname starts FL so it as out.. I still think it is adorable though.

For my pennies worth I think Molly is less common than Clara is. (have you checked the top 100 lists?)

ToffeeMoon · 14/05/2014 02:18

Frika Clara was well outside the top 100 last year. Obviously that may change. But I think there are a lot more Mollys about.

OP, I couldn't do it. I love Clara but there are so many lovely names available to you, you must be able to find another.

GarlicMayHaveNamechanged · 14/05/2014 02:26

Congrats on your scan!

Just popping on to vote in favour of Clara. I like superhero names; give the girl an advantage :) I think it's an advantage to have a memorable name, too.
