Is this amount of name alliteration ridiculous?

So am 20 weeks pregnant and don't know the sex yet but would like opinions on our favoured girls name... Clara.

Both DH and I love the name but the problem is our surname - it's the same as Superman's first name! i.e. there's a huge amount of alliteration present.

Does this rule it out? If you heard this name would you think it ridiculous? I alternate between loving Clara so much that I feel it doesn't matter and then worrying we're saddling our baby with a daft name! Help!

Have avoided writing our surname to avoid the whole name being searchable Smile

X posted loads due to fannying around Blush

I like Carla and Cara too (pp suggested them), they go nicely with surname - also Carly.

Stepawayfromthezebras · 11/05/2014 17:09

I second the Cora suggestions. Also, how about Greta?

OryxCrake · 11/05/2014 17:09

Hattie goes brilliantly with your surname.

CrispyFern · 11/05/2014 17:10

Marnie? Bit like Molly but more unusual?
I love Rose.

CrispyFern · 11/05/2014 17:12

How about Laura? Or Sarah? They are a bit Clara ish without the C sound!

ThingsThatShine · 11/05/2014 17:28

I was also going to say Cora and Cara. Clara is too much with the surname.

Theo131214 · 11/05/2014 17:35

Didn't do Lois Lane any harm ;) I like it xx

stripedtortoise · 11/05/2014 17:41

I think Molly goes the best with your surname out if the choices listed. Certainly not Clara. Sorry! ;)

ThePieSmuggler · 11/05/2014 18:15

I like Greta, that one is added to the list, I also like Cora but if we veto Clara then I think we'd be looking at a totally different name rather than a similar sounding one. Thanks for all the input so far (especially those of you that say Clara worksGrin)

Was gonna suggest Greta too and flora? I wouldn't use Clara if it was me my brother was Robbie Roberts and I still laugh at my mums stupidity!

funnyoldonion · 11/05/2014 18:22

He had a hyphenated name but of course everyone just called him Robbie

It would be ok if you pronounced it Claire-uh, as some people do, but you may not like that!

Bunbaker · 11/05/2014 18:28

"I don't think it's that bad, you could double barrel it?"

Nooo. Hyphenates surnames are... meh.

Toospotty · 11/05/2014 18:30

I quite like it actually. There are far worse names out there!

Of your others, I do like Harriet. And Greta.

Wishfulmakeupping · 11/05/2014 18:35

Harriet or Violet both lovely with your surname but not Clara doesn't sound right at all

carolinecupcake · 11/05/2014 18:38

I think Emily is a lovely name although maybe it's too popular.

weatherall · 11/05/2014 18:40

Use your maiden name as the surname and make the superman name the middle name.

Toospotty · 11/05/2014 18:41

If you google, there are women out there with that name. So not impossible.

burgatroyd · 11/05/2014 18:43

You wouldn't believe it, op, but my dd has same surname as yours and Clara was also consideration. I liked the alliteration but ruled it out because came up with so many more names during 3rd trimester. how about Clarissa or Carla? I would have gone for Coco as a nickname with the double c's in play.

burgatroyd · 11/05/2014 18:46

PS met a Lara and was surprised by how much I liked the name when previously hadn't really noticed it. Lara is very beautiful and think its stronger name than Clara and would perhaps be the solution

unlucky83 · 11/05/2014 18:50

I love Violet with Letty as a NN - but then wanted to call DD2 that but DP vetoed it Sad

I do think that Clara with your surname might be too much (and it gives her the initials cc - but don't think that's too bad...
Actually Violet - VC - Hmm
Are you planning a middle name (not hyphenated) ?

usuallysuspect · 11/05/2014 18:53

I think it sounds fine.

I quite like those names together.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 11/05/2014 18:59

I think it's too much.

Iris?
Miriam?
Fiona?

ThingsThatShine · 11/05/2014 19:09
