I think it is Aw-ray-lia but mentioned it a friend who said Aw-ree-lia. Just curious...

Your friends way. I studied Latin at school so aw-reelia.

I did French so would say it your way. Can see the Latin argument for the other way. Both clearly right. Andrea has the same problem, you just learn that particular person's way of pronouncing it? It is a lovely name.

I would say it like none of the above (I think).
Ow-RAY-lee-uh. Only one I know is Spanish speaker.

Nice enough name, but this variation in pronunciation would drive me potty if it was my dd's!

Awe-ree-lee-ah

Aw-ree-liyah in english. If it has an acute accent then aw-ray-liyah.
To get around the confusion I named my baby Aurelia as I didn't want people pronouncing it the English way.

Sorry update I named her Auralia

Report
TatianaLarina · 09/07/2019 16:06

It can be pronounced either way. I prefer Au ray lia.

That’s Au rah lia surely.

I'd pronounce

Auralia as Au rah lia (the rah rhymes with StAR)

Aurelia as Au reh lia (the reh rhymes with ENemy)

And once again ZOMBIE THREAD.

Seriously, what's with them today? Do we actually need to get out those zombie apocalypse emergency plans?

It's not spelled Aurélia or Auraylia, so it isn't pronounced with é sound.

It's Aurelia.

Your way. Didn't realise some people would pronounce it otherwise.

Baby Aurelia is now five years old so I imagine they’ve made a decision on pronunciation by now.
