I love it and wondered what others thought?

Well yes, I agree that while I think Betty IS a great name, I would put Elizabeth on the certificate.
Another poster put it just right, she might need gravitas in the future!

OpalTourmaline · 19/12/2013 22:07

I love Betty ever since watching Mad Men. Very hip

MrsLouisTheroux · 20/12/2013 06:56

Wasn't expecting cool and hip! Grin Yes I agree about Elizabeth as a full name!

Betty seems a bit old fashioned but it's actually quite nice. I think if I knew a child called Betty, I'd warm to the name really quickly.

Go for it!

SpicedTeaAndXmasCakeOrDeath · 20/12/2013 08:22

I like it as a nn but agree it needs something longer what about;

Bettina
Beatrice
Bethia
Roberta
Bettine

ZombieSquirrel · 20/12/2013 11:59

I really, really dislike it, sorry.

Claire983 · 20/12/2013 14:12

No.

Branleuse · 20/12/2013 14:16

i really really like it

VampireHamster · 20/12/2013 14:19

I don't like it.

LillianaMarie · 20/12/2013 14:21

I'd call her elizabeth and nickname her betty so she has more options in the future... Eliza, beth, lizzy, liz etc

alemci · 20/12/2013 22:11

yes call her Elizabeth.

Betty reminds me of some mothets do have them or Corrie with Betty Turpin

BettyBotter · 20/12/2013 22:17

Funnily enough, I quite like it... Wink

lilyaldrin · 20/12/2013 22:19

Very trendy, I know of 3 little ones.

BigChocolateOrange · 20/12/2013 22:23

It was good enough for Rizzo...

nooka · 20/12/2013 22:31

I don't like nns as full names, so I'd not use Betty on it's own, because it sounds cutsie to me but on the gravitas front I have a colleague called Betty who is very cool and stylish and it's changed the way I think of the name completely.

DancingLady · 20/12/2013 22:32

Love it! Betty (Bettie?) Page, anyone?

serin · 20/12/2013 22:43

Oh it's lovely, very cool.

CheeseStrawWars · 20/12/2013 22:53

I would read up on Bettie Page before naming my kid after her. It's not all cutesy kitsch pin-up... but then I'd have an issue naming my child after a pin-up and lots of people don't, see all the Jordans etc...

DancingLady · 20/12/2013 23:39

Naming a child Betty/Bettie doesn't mean you're naming her 'after' a pinup. I was just pointing out a cool Betty. Another one would be Betty Friedan.

I love the name Maggie, but I don't love Maggie Thatcher.

youaremychocolatecake · 20/12/2013 23:42

I love it but being from south East London, it would annoy me if people didn't pronounce the T in the middle Hmm

OpalTourmaline · 20/12/2013 23:53

It says in this article that it is increasing in popularity

www.today.com/moms/top-baby-names-2012-aiden-sophia-get-competition-betty-white-1C7326873

"The women of comedy are also making their mark. ...But the biggest gain of all the funnyladies was Betty, up 54 percent this year. Betty's upward trend has been building for a while, thanks to Betty Draper's character on "Mad Men" and the growing popularity of old-fashioned names -- but it's nice to think that pregnant ladies love their nonagenarian Betty White.

When i hear the name Betty i just picture an old woman, sorry!

youmakemydreams · 20/12/2013 23:55

I love Betty.
My dd has what is already a shortened version of a name which also lends itself nicely to Betty as a nn. She loves it too.

OpalTourmaline · 21/12/2013 00:09

I used to see it as an old ladies' name as I have an elderly aunt called Betty, but watching Mad Men made me see it as cool and hip. Most of the girls in my dds' primary school classes have names that were considered old lady names not too long ago. Ruby, Molly, Grace, Lily etc.

keiratomm · 21/12/2013 16:10

there is a line in the song Smoke Rings by Laurie Anderson
"Well I had a dream and in it I went to a little town And all the girls in town were named Betty. And they were singing: ..."
