Help me name ds2: do your worst to my shortlist

donttellalfred · 11/08/2013 12:33

Ds2 is due in a few weeks and dh and I can't think of a single name we both feel is 'the one' - but then I wasn't completely sure about ds1's name until he arrived and made it his own.

So, current thinking is, in no special order:

Peter
Gilbert
Arthur
Clement
Robert
Thomas

Help!

It's a lovely set of names!

My preference would be Peter or Robert with Thomas as runner up. Arthur is fine, but always seems a bit odd on a small boy IYSWIM, and I'm not so keen on Gibert or Clement (they seem rather 'tinny').

Writerwannabe83 · 11/08/2013 12:38

Definitely Peter!!

Please don't call him Gilbert Grin

Yama · 11/08/2013 12:40

I like Robert, nn Rob.

donttellalfred · 11/08/2013 12:41

Thanks, v helpful! I forgot one: my personal fave, dh less sure but I am working on wearing him down.

Jolyon

Everyone I know thinks this last is a bad idea apart from me...

Robert, NN Bertie

HappySmileyFace · 11/08/2013 12:42

Arthur or Thomas get my vote.

Are you looking for alternatives? Perhaps Albert?

JackyDanny · 11/08/2013 12:42

I went to school with a gorgeous Jolyon.
Like Julian too.

HappySmileyFace · 11/08/2013 12:43

How do you pronounce Jolyon?

Viviennemary · 11/08/2013 12:45

They are all good names with the exeption of Clement. Jolyon - never heard of it but sounds dire. I like all the rest. Probably Thomas and Robert best. But Albert and Arthur are great too.

Yika · 11/08/2013 12:47

Robert. Can't go wrong. Jolyon sounds wet, sorry.

PuppyMonkey · 11/08/2013 12:47

Jolyon Confused that's a no from me. The others are all acceptable I think.

Wishfulmakeupping · 11/08/2013 12:48

Love arthur with Artie as nn but it is getting very popular.
Peter is lovely and very underused these days

Layl77 · 11/08/2013 12:51

Peter- really lovely underused name
Gilbert- don't like, can't imagine shouting it
Arthur -nice
Clement -thought a little girly? Would get use to
Robert - nice underused
Thomas - nice v popular though

shrinkingnora · 11/08/2013 13:02

I actually know a jolyon - really suits him but it does get some raised eyebrows.

Gilbert and clement are fab. Also Claude and jonty

Ikeameatballs · 11/08/2013 14:14

Peter or Arthur are my favourites from that list.

Robert and Thomas are nice but a bit safe compared with your other choices.

Chocolatestain · 11/08/2013 14:17

Robert, Peter and Thomas are all nice and quite 'safe', as in you won't get raised eyebrows and DS won't get teased. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on yout point of view. Of the three I prefer Robert.
Don't like Gilbert or Clement. Quite like Jolyon, but I think it would take a kid with bags of personality to pull it off. We had a short list and waited til DS arrived to make the final choice.

Thanks for feedback everyone.

Clement!

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2013 19:47

I only like Clement.

Clement is an excellent name.

Please don't go for Thomas. There are enough people in the world called Thomas already.

lljkk · 11/08/2013 19:58

Clement is the only one that makes me cringe. Please not Clement.

donttellalfred · 11/08/2013 21:44

How am I supposed to decide with no consensus?!

Like suggestions of Albert, Claude and especially Jonty. Would you use Jonty on its own, or as a nn for Jonathan? I like Jonty but Jonathan not as much.

Asher, anyone?

Eurgh to Clement and Gilbert... All the others are lovely though.

itsnothingoriginal · 11/08/2013 22:01

Love Gilbert! Gil for short is fab too..

Jonty was on my list too but DH said no. I would have just gone for Jonty if we'd agreed on it!
