Both are beautiful! I like Elodie slightly more though I think.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 25/05/2013 18:47

Elodie. And exactly how popular is too popular? I don't know of any Elodies in RL.

Leonas · 25/05/2013 18:48

Eloise is beautiful!

Leonas · 25/05/2013 18:49

*Elodie - stupid autocorrect!

Still18atheart · 25/05/2013 19:07

I love love love Elodie

Don't like Ottilie not even sure how you pronounce it

thezebrawearspurple · 25/05/2013 20:00

Elodie is beautifulSmile

nickrhodesjewel · 25/05/2013 20:02

Elodie, definitely.

Squidwoman · 25/05/2013 23:25

Elodie!!! Definitely. I am an Elodie. I love my name and so does everyone I meet. I'm 41 and have only ever met one other. (I'm half French - it's French but quite rare there too). I do have to say "Melodie without the M" quite a lot.

Squidwoman · 25/05/2013 23:29

Also I've never had my same shortened to Ellie. Only one person (sister) calls me El. And my council tax bill came the other day and they had spelt my name LODELODIE.... because I had said it and immediately spelt it out for them. Idiots.

Squidwoman · 25/05/2013 23:29

I mean my name

Moxiegirl · 25/05/2013 23:36

Love Ottilie.

borisjohnsonshair · 25/05/2013 23:39

Elodie is lovely. My favourite French name is Maelle (pronounced My-el). Think it's a Breton name.

piemashandliquer · 25/05/2013 23:48

Have a friend with an elodie, deedee for short. Its a lovley name.

PixelAteMyFace · 25/05/2013 23:53

Elodie, definitely, very pretty name.

Ottilie makes me think of furry creatures that swim, sorry!

AmandinePoulain · 26/05/2013 05:35

Grin Squid, I'll have to warn dd2 to watch out for idiots when she needs to spell her name out Wink

NorkilyChallenged · 26/05/2013 06:28

I love Ottilie in French but in an English accent I think it just sounds like "utterly" and that put me off using it for my daughters

3boysgirlontheway · 26/05/2013 06:47

I love Elodie, it is so pretty.

theboutiquemummy · 26/05/2013 06:59

Why is everyone calling their child ottilie ?

Elodie is more unusual

Yonionekanobe · 26/05/2013 08:03

I'd never heard of Ottilie until there was an actress in something at Christmas called Ottilie nn. Otto. I really like it and added it to our girls' names list but DH vetoed it immediately. No idea it was getting so popular.

I think Ottilie Alice is lovely.

Elodie is also a nice name, but I know a baby Elodie whose mother is a horrible snob so very unreasonably that's put me off it.

amandine07 · 26/05/2013 09:29

Oooh I love Elodie- beautiful!

amandine07 · 26/05/2013 09:31

Not really heard of Ottilie- only Odile which is kind of similar.
Personally, sounds too much like "otter" and potential annoying spelling issues.
I would go for Elodie!

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 26/05/2013 09:34

Do you think you will shorten the names? To what?

Squid that is funny!

Squidwoman · 26/05/2013 15:09

@ Amandine07 and AmandinePoulain I love the name Amandine but you have to say it with a French accent! I also like Amelie and Magalie (in French). My sister is called Emeline which I like too.
I'm having a boy in Sept and we want to call him Atticus. I love it even though it doesn't really work in French. Tant pis!

SoupDragon · 26/05/2013 15:13

Elodie.

MummytoMog · 26/05/2013 15:18

I'd rather have Ottoline than ottilie. I know rather too many Elodies now to really like it. Are you set in a French name? I love Melusine but probs doesn't work with Alice.
