What names have you heard recently to make you stop in your tracks and wonder if the parents are a bit mad?

My most recent favourite is... Flossy, for a girl.
Made worse because my dads pet name for me is Flossy, or Floss. So to hear it as an ACTUAL name just makes me gawp.

Worst boys name - Banjo.

Digby is the most outlandish that I have met.

JohnSnowsTie · 11/05/2013 20:29

ilikeyoursleeves I'm down in South England and I've heard of Pochahontas McGuire from Glasgow!

Purplehonesty · 11/05/2013 20:51

Boy called kenna. I don't get it at all surely that's the girl version of ken?

DXBMermaid · 11/05/2013 21:20

Chandestiny

Dutch couple wanted to call their son Brian, but were numpties so now have a son who's name is spelt Brain.

Not a baby but hearing "HORATIO" being bellowed down the train carriage recently made me then my head. Boy must have been around 7,mum was also calling him "Ratio" as a nickname. Brothers Dayton and Mason. The unusually named Horatio seemed to be the middle sibling.

I like a slightly pretentious name,I really do but...fairly sure Horatio was an unusual name even when Nelson was a boy. Why would you do that to your child in the 21st century?!

pippitysqueakity · 12/05/2013 09:14

Annalyse surely just a different spelling of Annalise, not massively unusual name.

Panzee · 12/05/2013 09:37

Arf at django actually being popular. Grin the parents will be gutted!
Enoch (way up thread) is from Boardwalk Empire, nn on the show is Nucky.

magdalen · 12/05/2013 09:56

Phew, my daughter's name made it in on the previous page. I was prepared to be most disappointed.
My son's shortened name is featured early on.
They are both absolutely "real" names.
Lots of the names on these sorts of thread are, it's just the poster hasn't heard of them.
Cheers.

HalfBakedCleverCookie · 12/05/2013 10:00

I love some of the names on this thread.

Last name I was shocked at was rainbow-Lilly.

How do you pronounce ptolmey?

AmandaPayneNeedsANap · 12/05/2013 10:09

Just with a silent P - To-le-my

PipkinsPal · 12/05/2013 10:50

Alis my Grampa was Sydney Horatio. He was born exactly 100 years after the Battle of Trafalgar. But he was known as Syd.

Dinosaurdrip · 12/05/2013 11:11

Dd's name has been mentioned on here, I was waiting for it as when we tell people they either love it or Hmm we love it though.

WickerKnickers · 12/05/2013 19:23

Carly Armani (registrar, 'oh is that a family name? Mother said, 'No, as in the frocks')... One child with 9-10 forenames, one of which was Almonds... Child at SIL's school, 14 forenames, two of which Bacardi and Breezer... Young man I met at work, horribly ashamed of middle names 'Twelve Minutes'... Biscuit... Cornflake...

I work in a registry office.

Moominsarehippos · 12/05/2013 19:31

I read recently that poor old 'Tallulah Does The Hula From Hawai' changed her name by deed poll. Hardly suprising!

Trazzletoes · 12/05/2013 22:43

Moomins yes, she had to go to Court to do it. The Jusge wouldn't say what it was changed to in order to stop her suffering from the ridiculousness of her original name.

Moominsarehippos · 13/05/2013 14:33

Do you think her (I assume it is a her) parents were suprised/offended at the name change?

I'm assuming the poor kid was imagining her degree/leaver's cert/doctorate with that name on it when she changed it!

mamasmissionimpossible · 13/05/2013 14:41

gammon (boy)
ocean (girl)
bear (boy)
loki (boy)
zephyr (boy
cinnamon (girl)

PeazlyPops · 13/05/2013 14:42

I know of a Bailey-Boo!

PeazlyPops · 13/05/2013 14:43

Bailee*

Trazzletoes · 13/05/2013 14:55

moomins if I remember correctly she was either taken in to care or adopted and wanted to change her name but had never used it anyway. I think at school she was just known as "T" or something.

madamginger · 13/05/2013 16:29

There is a boy called McJesus in DDs class. He's Nigerian I think.
I also know a star, a honey and a Donald.

And at a toddler group I met Alabama and tiana.

squoosh · 13/05/2013 16:57

Some great names on here. Some crazy names on here.

Peric to honour Peter and Eric made me chuckle. Sounds like a Hobbit's name.

squoosh · 13/05/2013 16:58

Is that McJesus, as in MacJesus or is it DJ M.C. Jesus?

madamginger · 13/05/2013 17:00

Macjesus like mcdonalds.

LemonPeculiarJones · 13/05/2013 17:15

MacJesus??!!
