Baby girl is due in 3 weeks, her name was narrowed down to Arianna as long as it suited her but a "friend" of mine has just named her little girl this Angry so know we are back to the drawing board... I did post earlier for thoughts on diff names but what do u think of the variations of arianna?

Arabella
Annabella
Ariella

I'd stick with Arianna! Never change the name you pick because someone else picks it. You'll be kicking yourself in a few years if you hardly see this friend and you use a name you don't love in the same way.

KittenofDoom · 29/04/2013 14:31

What Astley said.

lottieandmia · 29/04/2013 14:32

Arabella was on my shortlist. Did your friend know you were going to use this name? A bit mean of her... I would always say nobody owns a name but when it's a good friend and you are due around the same time it totally takes the p imo!

ncc85 · 29/04/2013 14:38

I would love to still use it but we are very good friends (Ive known her for 15 years and see her every week).... in fact im worried that shell get annoyed that the name is still too similar Confused

I know lottieandmia I casually mentioned that that was our planned name and she said oh i didnt realise!! I am a bit peeved but feel childish for feeling annoyed too lol

Just say 'you know we'd picked this name too'. Then use it. You'll regret it otherwise. She doesn't own the name.

Use the name you had chosen

KittenofDoom · 29/04/2013 14:50

Yes, do it. They will probably develop different nicknames or shortenings anyway (or one will).

BabylonReturns · 29/04/2013 14:52

Definitely use what you originally chose. You will regret otherwise.

telsa · 29/04/2013 15:32

Go for Arrietty!

LeChatRouge · 29/04/2013 15:34

I love Annabel or Annabella. Also, Aurelia is beautiful.

ZolaBuddleia · 29/04/2013 17:22

Hhm, tricky if you see her all the time. I'm afraid I don't like any of your other suggestions, particularly Ariella (Tree Fu Tom and it makes me think areola).

Like LeChat's suggestion of Aurelia.

BNmum · 29/04/2013 17:28

I'm with you telsa, I love Arrietty! Grin

Still18atheart · 29/04/2013 17:44

Stick with the original choice

Don't like the other 3 suggestions

fussychica · 29/04/2013 18:42

Stick with your original choice. Not keen on the others.

MummyBurrows · 29/04/2013 18:56

Stick with the orignal Arianna if its the name you love, quite a few people I know have kids with the same names even though they're all mates with each other!

But if you'd rather not have the same name then I'd choose Annabella/Annabelle from your list x

raisah · 30/04/2013 05:15

Stick with the original because you may lose touch with this friend so go with the original plan. Another suggestion would be Anisa, it means good friend in Arabic.

themilkmonster · 30/04/2013 07:31

Only choose something else as long as you love the new name as much as the original name, otherwise it will annoy you. From your list I really like Annabella. A previous poster's suggestion of Aurelia is lovely too.

thegreylady · 30/04/2013 09:09

I know an Adriana if that helps at all but I love all the suggestions with Annabella best of all. Arabella reminds me of the rhyme about Arabella caterpillar which my dgc love :)

PetiteRaleuse · 30/04/2013 09:17

Stick with Arianna. I really wanted to call one of mine Ariane but DH wouldn't have it :(

dontblameme · 30/04/2013 16:55

Funny, read your title and was going to jump in and suggest Arianna! I personally wouldn't use it if a 'friend' had, because I'd want my DD to be unique. (I have a stupid common name.) Alyssa, Amelie, Aurora?

LucyLucas · 30/04/2013 18:09

Arianna is the nicest name there-use it. You chose it as well and you will regret it otherwise. This sounds stupid but when I read that I got really annoyed for you. I would hate it if that happened to me. Do it anyway. She may be annoyed, but it's not 'her name' and if you like it you should use it.

xyla · 30/04/2013 18:21

Use it! Even if the girls become close and grow up together, it won't matter that they have the same name. Really. Would it matter to you if you had a close friend of the same name?

AngiBolen · 30/04/2013 18:28

I think Arabella or Annabella are lightly nicer than Arianna.

I only wanted a name starting and ending in an A for DD. Other names I liked were Anastasia, Anoushka, Annalise, Aurelia, & Saskia, Tatiana, Claudia.

Think about what it might be shortened to. Arabella = Bella, Annabella = Anna or Bella. What diminutive do you like best?

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/04/2013 20:06

I like Arabella. I'm also a fan of Ariadne
