Baby girl is due in 3 weeks, her name was narrowed down to Arianna as long as it suited her but a "friend" of mine has just named her little girl this Angry so know we are back to the drawing board... I did post earlier for thoughts on diff names but what do u think of the variations of arianna?

Arabella is an extremely gorgeous name. When we were considering it for our DD it was termed an "aspirational" name on here.

What's wrong with having aspirations I say?!

I like Arianne more than Arianna - that extra a at the end ruins it. Same with Annabel / Annabella -
Arabella makes me think of Arabella Buckley from the Enid Blyton books! Not keen. What's short for Arabella? Arry? Prefer Annabella to Arabella. What was the other name again? Ariella. Again, I'd make it simpler by sticking to Ariel (pronounced Aree-elle)

How about:
Ariadne
Aria
Ariana
Ariane
Brianna
Carrie
Caroline
Christiana
Katerina
Harriet
Henrietta
Rhiannon
Karina
Adriana
Mariana
Oriana (o-RYAH-nah, according to the Internet)
Oriane
Ariadna

The Daily Mail reliably informs me that Imogen Thomas has named her baby Ariana Siena so don't be surprised if it peaks a bit amongst those that like to read trashy celeb magazines!

I want to tell you to stick to your guns but if you live near your friend and your girls are likely to be in the same school, it'd annoy me.

I like Arabella and Annabel (but Annabella is too frilly for me and I'm not sure about Ariella).

I LOVE Aurelia (either pronounced Oh-RAY-lia or maybe Oh-RELL-lia).

I do like Arianne too and think that if that was your first choice you should stick with it, but I can understand why ou might not really want to now.

FWIW, I much prefer Annabel or Annabella to Arabella. I also like Amabel and Amalia.

Ariane is a version of Arianna which can be pronounced differently, and, quite honestly, is nicer

That's how I'd pronounce Aurelia. Another similar name is Allegra.

Weirdly enough I have Arianna earmarked for my little lady to be, and my greatest fear is that someone will someone name their baby this before she arrives. I feel better reading all of the 'name her that anyway' posts here! Having said that I would like a back up, and I think I really like Aurelia, but am unsure of pronunciation. Am I right in thinking its Or-ray-lee-a?!! (Dodgy phonetics, sorry!)

I like Arabella. I'm also a fan of Ariadne

I think Arabella or Annabella are lightly nicer than Arianna.

I only wanted a name starting and ending in an A for DD. Other names I liked were Anastasia, Anoushka, Annalise, Aurelia, & Saskia, Tatiana, Claudia.

Think about what it might be shortened to. Arabella = Bella, Annabella = Anna or Bella. What diminutive do you like best?

Use it! Even if the girls become close and grow up together, it won't matter that they have the same name. Really. Would it matter to you if you had a close friend of the same name?

Arianna is the nicest name there-use it. You chose it as well and you will regret it otherwise. This sounds stupid but when I read that I got really annoyed for you. I would hate it if that happened to me. Do it anyway. She may be annoyed, but it's not 'her name' and if you like it you should use it.

Funny, read your title and was going to jump in and suggest Arianna! I personally wouldn't use it if a 'friend' had, because I'd want my DD to be unique. (I have a stupid common name.) Alyssa, Amelie, Aurora?

Stick with Arianna. I really wanted to call one of mine Ariane but DH wouldn't have it :(

I know an Adriana if that helps at all but I love all the suggestions with Annabella best of all. Arabella reminds me of the rhyme about Arabella caterpillar which my dgc love :)

Only choose something else as long as you love the new name as much as the original name, otherwise it will annoy you. From your list I really like Annabella. A previous poster's suggestion of Aurelia is lovely too.

raisah · 30/04/2013 05:15

Stick with the original because you may lose touch with this friend so go with the original plan. Another suggestion would be Anisa, it means good friend in Arabic.

Stick with the orignal Arianna if its the name you love, quite a few people I know have kids with the same names even though they're all mates with each other!

But if you'd rather not have the same name then I'd choose Annabella/Annabelle from your list x
