I know someone whose daughter and son are called Paris and Troy. Really! Aside from being utter rubbish, I mean, if we are going with mythology Paris is a boy not a girl, and Troy is a place not a person! Its Paris and Hector surely? Or Troy and Mesopotamia?

So can you top that? Go on, I could do with a laugh.

I'm all for boys names on girls when girls names are ok to use on boys.

There are female James' but no male Sophie's!

FellatioNelson · 22/11/2012 13:20

I can still barely get over the bewilderment of finding out that the mother in Little House on the Prairie was played by a woman called Michael. Forty years that's been bothering me. Forty years.

FellatioNelson · 22/11/2012 13:20

Actually, maybe not 40, but certainly 35.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/11/2012 13:28

Was she?! Shock

I used to watch it when I was small, that would have boggled my young mind. Much like it's boggling my older mind now.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/11/2012 13:30

Oooh FellatioNelson I just went on Wikipedia and it's the Dad who's called Michael. The mum was called Karen.

In real life. Grin

LadyFlumpalot · 22/11/2012 13:35

A brother and sister called Colt and Purdy.

Their dad is a gun fanatic.

badtime · 22/11/2012 13:37

One of the group 'The Bangles' was called 'Michael'. I used to work with a woman called Michael. I don't understand why you would do that to a girl-child.

blameitonthecaffeine · 22/11/2012 13:46

I know a family with children called

Amelie Rainbow Star
Jack Phoenix Storm
Elodie Disney Sparkle

Obviously they are known as Amelie, Jack and Elodie so seem totally mainstream but their full names are just - wow! I actually kind of love the first two though the last one goes a bit far for me. I'd never dare name a child of mine anything like that though.

Jack Phoenix Storm is actually pretty cool. If he ever wanted to act/be a musican he has a ready made stage name.

InNeedOfBrandy · 22/11/2012 14:30

I liked most of those names to, but I feel I keep repeating myself banging on saying I like that name again and again.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/11/2012 15:33

I suspect everyone would have thought little Amelie Rainbow Star's name was completely acceptable it the parents had used Enfys Seren or um somethingLatin Stella rather than the words in their English form.

Stella and Seren both mean star and are perfectly acceptable...Star? No,no that's not allowed. Hilarious! Hmm

shriekingnora · 22/11/2012 16:32

There are only positive comments on those names Alis.

Here's a negative one:
Amelie Rainbow Star's name is terrible because it spells ARS. I sincerely hope their surname did not begin with an 'e'.

Justreadthefuckingwords · 22/11/2012 16:47

Thali means plate in Hindi, it's also a collection of small dishes making up a meal.

So your inkling was correct Goralka.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/11/2012 16:55

shriekingnora Grin

That would be unfortunate.

I rally like Star and Rainbow.

Shock What's happening to me? Confused

YoullScreamAboutItOneDay · 22/11/2012 22:44

I love those names. Well, except Disney. I am not a big fan of brand names for children's names (I am not aware of it being a name beforehand, unless someone sets me right!!). I am so in love with wild, amazing middle names. Especially with dead 'sensible' first names. Wish I'd thought of it when I was doing naming Grin

MrsDeVere - no, no, you don't want two paed consultants. Surely you want a mixture. Surgeon and paed consultant or something. Imagine the sibling rivalry!

Bettyintheburbs · 22/11/2012 23:03

Ones that make me come out all goose-bumpy:
Levigh and Wrangler, both boys
Windy, also boy
A family known as 'The Nicks', mum Nicola, Dad Nicholas, children Nikita, Nickelle, Nicole and Nicky
Candida, poor girl, why would anyone name a child after a vaginal yeast infection?

InNeedOfBrandy · 22/11/2012 23:07

Disney was Walt Disneys surname right? I personally wouldn't have it but wouldn't judge a little girl called it.

ScatterChasse · 22/11/2012 23:53

Candida just means white in Latin, so originally it was fine. Not the best nowadays though.

Alis, rainbow in Latin is 'arcus coelestis' so I think you might get some comments Grin You could use Iris though, goddess of the rainbow.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/11/2012 00:42

*scatterChasse that would definitely get eyebrows raised! Grin

Enfys is Welsh for rainbow, that's the only non English version I knew!

CheerfulYank · 23/11/2012 04:09

I was almost named Brynn Elizabeth Alis. :o Yes, it is exclusively for girls here, as well as Aubrey.

FellatioNelson · 23/11/2012 04:30

No, not the character, the actress. Although perhaps I'm getting muddled up with the Waltons. Confused

FellatioNelson · 23/11/2012 04:32

Yes, it was the Waltons, sorry. Michael Learned was her name.
