Elliot - for a girl?!

I've been thinking about this name for a while, and recently I've started to think it sounds really pretty for a girl. Am I alone in thinking this? We would probably go for something along the lines of Elliot Pearl/Elliot Grace.

Is this a stupid pregnancy induced idea?

Hmm There are many lovely Ellie ish girls' names. I would assume Elliot was a boy.

bigbluebump · 26/10/2012 18:54

I think since one one of the main characters on the television show Scrubs has been a female Elliot, it has become more widely used for girls.

Also, the nickname Elle or Ellie are very feminine.

I like Elliot Pearl more than Elliot Grace.

I think in america elliot is used as a girls name. Ok i have seen it on a prog whete a family have an older girl then they had quintuplets? Their elder dd is elliot.

Ok for a girl.i think. My dd has eden as a middle name, that is a name often used for boys as well.

memphis83 · 26/10/2012 18:55

I love it. I think it is really pretty.

PickledFanjoCat · 26/10/2012 18:55

It's a massive boys name for me.

vamosbebe · 26/10/2012 18:56

Scrubs! I think it's quite nice, although the nicknames are awful imho. Just use the full name and it'll stick Smile

RillaBlythe · 26/10/2012 18:56

I know several, and they are all boys.

StrawberryMojito · 26/10/2012 18:58

I like it. She will have a lifetime of people presuming she is a boy before they meet her but then so do lots of people with unisex names. I say go for it.

AlexanderS · 26/10/2012 18:59

I personally really like it (you don't want yet another Ellie/Ella/Eleanor!), but I like unisex names. I think Elliot Grace flows better than Elliot Pearl.

rezzle · 26/10/2012 19:00

Would try and avoid the nn Ellie as face as possible. I've not met any little Elliots - I suppose it wouldn't be great if she was at school with a lot of male Elliots.

5madthings, I love the name Eden, it's beautiful. I also love Scout and Marley (would use if it didn't rhyme with DS's name!) though, so not too into really 'girly' names.

I know a small female Elliott and tbh i was a bit unsure when they announced her name, but now it's just her iyswim and i rather like it

Eebs · 26/10/2012 19:02

My cousin's daughter is an Elliot. I think it is pretty. I prefer it for a girl than a boy. However most people loook surprised when they hear so you just have to be ready for that. I like Elliot Grace

UltraBOF · 26/10/2012 19:03

I like it.

PickledFanjoCat · 26/10/2012 19:04

Its growing upon me!

rezzle · 26/10/2012 19:06

Does anyone have any other suggestions of unusual girls names that either aren't too 'girly' or that have a variety of nicknames?

nahla321 · 26/10/2012 19:10

Elliot Pearl is beautiful!

AlexanderS · 26/10/2012 19:10

Hadley
Harper
Emerson

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/10/2012 19:12

No.

PickledFanjoCat · 26/10/2012 19:12

Erin something like that?

AlexanderS · 26/10/2012 19:12

And Sienna Miller has just called her baby girl Marlowe, which is growing on me (gets you round the issue of Marley rhyming with Harley).

StrawberryMojito · 26/10/2012 19:14

Rowan.

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 26/10/2012 19:14

Absolutely love Elliot for a girl!

rezzle · 26/10/2012 19:15

Rowan's gorgeous, can't imagine DH going for it though. Thank you all for your feedback :)

I thought it was a boys name. [hconfused] (just wanted to use one of these new smileys. [hgrin]

Gwennan · 26/10/2012 19:31

Not one for me but you could always spell it Elliette if you wanted a distinctly feminine name.
