Middle name for Scout

Our beautiful surprise DD arrived on Wednesday (we were convinced she'd be a boy!) and we are trying to decide between names.

I've always loved India, particularly the NN Indie but actually, when I try it out on her, it just doesn't feel right. DH has always wanted Scout which I also really like and feels much better but I'm struggling to come up with a middle name that would suit it.

Scout isn't an absolute definite (I think MIL lives in hope of it being ruled out!) so other ideas would be welcome.

Thanks!

I like Scout, but I think you'll probably get very mixed opinions on it.

Shoshe · 01/09/2012 08:38

I know a Scout Anna, a beautiful little girl.

sassytheFIRST · 01/09/2012 08:39

I would go for a more classic middle name so she has the option to swap them around if Scout (which I love, BTW) becomes too much of a handful.

Scout Rachel
Scout Rebecca
Scout Jennifer
Scout Elizabeth

etc.

Hut. It's really not a good 'nane'.

lisaro · 01/09/2012 08:42

Name, even.

Kiss you're very right - we get lots of blank looks or silences when we mention it but we're getting used to that! DH and I have both read To Kill A Mockingbird at separate times and both loved the character separately.

Yes, I definitely think it needs to be a more traditional name. Keep the suggestions coming....

Not sure what middle name to suggest sorry, but just to say I am another one that LOVES Scout! It's on my shortlist for potential DD and anyone that's read To Kill A Mockingbird will instantly 'get it'!

hermionestranger · 01/09/2012 08:59

Love Scout! Grin I did my English presentation on To Kill.

What about Louise for a middle name?

EchoBitch · 01/09/2012 08:59

Leader.

rezzle · 01/09/2012 09:00

Scout Isabelle
Scout Alexandra
Scout Emilia
Scout Louisa
Scout Georgina
Scout Elizabeth

I think a longer middle name works better with a one syllable first name :)

rocketeer · 01/09/2012 09:03

I think Scout is lovely. I think a 'feminine' name would work really well as a middle name.

PopcornCity · 01/09/2012 09:08

Sadie, Scarlett, Saskia?

LizzieVerekerGold · 01/09/2012 09:10

Scout's middle name in TKAM is Louise - that might be nice. She's really called Jean, but that might be a bit old fashioned? Congratulations on your DD.

lljkk · 01/09/2012 09:13

I think she'll get teased in school about being a member of boy scouts.
What about Scout Louisa? A variation on the Mocking Bird character's real name (Jean Louise).

rowingdowntheriver · 01/09/2012 10:08

How about Scout Leigh? Scout is a lovely name btw.

jaffacakehips · 01/09/2012 10:43

I like it love India

What about:
Elizabeth
Louisa
Philippa
Isla

Or 2 mn something along the lines of;
Catherine Mary

SirBoobAlot · 01/09/2012 10:48

But even in TKAM, Scout isn't her real name! Don't call her Scout... Please.

Badgerina · 01/09/2012 11:04

I love Scout.

We're going with Spike for our boy, due in a couple of weeks, and like others have said, a more traditional "normal" middle name, works best I think Smile

Do you have family names you could use?

SirBoobAlot · 01/09/2012 11:06

Spike?! Jesus...

ThePieWhoLovedMe · 01/09/2012 11:06

Scout Julia was the first name I thought of when I saw your thread title.

HotHotNot · 01/09/2012 11:13

You both love it, think it suits her....but are not 100 % ?

Is it because you worry about teasing? IME kids are very accepting of their peers names and there are plenty of unusual ones out there.

Personally I wouldn't because I know 2 dogs called Scout and Scout-ee shouted across a field doesn't sound good in my accent. Probably doesn't apply to you.

You can't worry about what MIL thinks. Mine has an irrational dislike of the name Phoebe. How does it go with your surname?

lisaro · 01/09/2012 11:13

Spike? Oh please god let it be a bulldog you're getting and not a human child. Confused

Someone up thread said scout isabelle. That sounds nice.

Demi.Moore and Bruce Willis have a scout .

No family names that would go nicely with scout?
