The actual spelling for DD's name is edging closer to the top 100 but not close enough for me to care.

DS's name is in the 300's :o

The name we would have given to a DS2 is 101. Too close! His chosen middle name isn't even on the spreadsheet though so that's alright.

I'm trying not to die laughing, I'm Jewish so to me being called Yisrael/Israel is normal but really 5 called Isreal, is that just poor spelling or am I missing something?

My DS is no 64 but I can't open the XLS doc to see how many have his name. Its a family name for us which I chose long before pg but because of the trend towards "old" names I had a feeling it might creep up the chart!

My BFF's DD has 2x top 10 names in Wales -that could get confusing when she starts school

I see posters are now looking at the stats, rather than guessing the most popular names today, but I don't think anyone mentioned Lily - almost every other child I know is called Lily (well slight exaggertion) I see my youngest g'dghtr Isla is climbing high and her brother Finlay is towards the bottom of the list. No mention of my eldest g'dghtr though - Anya (so sshhh!) it's a Russian name and it was a toss up between Anya and Katya. Both lovely names I think,

Interestingly I think a few Irish names have crossed the sea - Keiron for a boy and Catelin, or Katelin for a girl. I think there are some very pretty Irish girl's name over there - Roisin (pronouned Ro-sheen) Ayshling, Aoife (pronounded E-fa) but very popular over there, Sinead (pronounced Shinade) although it may be more popular because of Sinead O'Connor. Oh yes and Connor for a boy is very popular there, as is Liam, Nile, Oisin (prounounced O - sheen) Mind I think the most popular girl's name over there is Sarah!

There were only 86 Bettys. That surprises me, actually, as when I was pregnant with DS (born May 2011), and in fact ever since then, it's seemed as though every other person I know who's expecting a girl has seriously considered calling her Betty.
Can anybody find Ivy? That's another name I was expecting to have rocketed up the charts, but I can't seem to find it at all?

Phew, my almost 7 year old DDs name has dropped down 8 places after having a surge into the teen numbers last year. DD2's name isn't in the top 100 and I haven't come across many personally either. Quite relieved. I don't want my DDs having the same names as half of the others in their peer groups.

ooh, this is finally out! DD1's intended name is still just outside the top 100, good. I thought it might have jumped up (but that's probably just because it's mentioned on MN quite a lot...)

There were only 3 Blairs. That surprises me, DD2 is Blair, I kept hearing it in peoples name lists, particularly recently, seen it a few times on mn and have got quite a lot of the 'thats what I want to call my daughter' unless they're all lying to me

DS is Neiran, that still hasn't come up even though I was always told its a popular indian name.
DD1 is West, that never appears apart from once in a boys list.

I just added up all the variations of Isobel and there were 2,000 more than the first place. Would be interesting if they grouped names up like that, even as a seperate list.

Reading the full list just goes to show that no one is unique!

Ivy is 168 with 310 little Ivy's in the world (although a lot of Ivy-XXX names too)

I remember the other year, if you added up all spellings of Mohammed it was the most popular name. I imagine the same may still be true.

I strongly suspect the correct interpretation of the data is simply that for Muslims it's very popular indeed and that non-Muslims tend to use a wider variety of baby-names.

However the press reported it, and there were all sorts of spurious interpretations of the data as I'm sure you can imagine

DD1's name is nowhere to be seen, yay! It's unusual, but not weird like Bunny, Apple or Favour (WTF?). Every other little girl I know is called Lili (or any other spelling), so I spend my time turning around I am in town as I keep hearing it shouted by other mums... It wasn't popular 36 years ago...

I was obsessed with DD not having anything in the top 100. Am now having DC2, so thats my afternoon gone, looking up all our potentials and being horrified. DD's name only had 17 people the year before and am a bit horrified that there were 42 last year!

Also quite interesting to look at, Lily is the most popular in 4 regions and Isabella is the most popular in London.

DD was born in 2011. Her name is top 300 - not unusual but not mega popular. I've been to lots of baby groups over the last year and met lots of little ones via nursery etc but haven't met a single baby Harry or Amelia. They're definitely not the most popular names round us. I was convinced number one would be Charlie and Lily.

Only 2 other babies with DDs name born last year. I didn't think it was that unusual

DS name is top yet I only know one other with the same name who is pre school age. Kyle is quite low down the top hundred but I know about 6 of them!
