If you could have chosen YOUR OWN name (first and or surname) -what would you have gone for?

I've never really liked my name - surname is OK but not a fan of my first name. I often flirt with the idea of changing it (has anyone ever successfully done that?) or assuming a pen name.
Inspired by the lovely double barrelled surname thread below - what would you like to have called yourself..?
I like the surnames:
Bloomfield - just sounds so inviting!
Russian sounding names - ending in vich or kov

I don't like my first name either, but being French, I'm stuck with it. Envy
There are a few names that I'm not necessarily fond of, but that I think would have suited me better : Adrienne, Caroline, Eloïse... or any Russian first name. I would have been a great Anastacia / Daria / Tatiana...

Someone once addressed a letter to me, but got my surname a bit wrong. I really preferred it to my real surname, though! It looked ao nice written down. I like my first name a lot so would have that with the 'wrong' but similar surname, which is Wallace.

My real name is 'me' 100% but if I could have chosen my own name, I would have liked to have been Imogen.

Imogen Wallace ... ..... hmmmmm

Agaless · 01/06/2012 22:25

I have such a boring verging on common name that Catherine or Sophie would have been just fine, thank you.
If you are talking last names I also adore Russian, Jewish, Polish sounding names, they are just something else... Sacha Sevenovski, Lev ALexelievitch, Natasha Davidoff, Nicolai Vassilievitch, Claude Askolovitch...
Surely life is that much more exciting when you have a beautiful name?

littletomato · 01/06/2012 22:31

Ohhh.. I think I'd like to have been called anything with hard sounds, like K or P or T. I always have to repeat my name, as it's just all dull mumbly letters.

RighteousDude · 01/06/2012 22:33

Calypso Paradise of course

I know a chap whose surname is paradise. He's huge and tattooed. I'd marry him for his name alone :)

PoppadumPreach · 01/06/2012 22:38

i have a shite first name - i think if people made a list of top ten dull names this would be one of them

i would like to be a "Lauren" - nothing too dramatic, but confident and not too faddy. i don't ask much.

Badgerina · 01/06/2012 22:47

I love my first name Smile I HATED my surname, so when I married I was glad to take DH's good, solid, strong surname Grin

bronze · 01/06/2012 22:48

I like My first name
Llewelyn would do me fine though I liked my maiden name and am ok with my married one

Valpollicella · 01/06/2012 22:49

I think im lucky in that I love both my names. Especially my surname which is very unusual. dont even mind having to spell it a lot of the time

Greenwing · 01/06/2012 23:09

I would like to be called Elizabeth - so many diminutives to choose from - or maybe Anna or Miriam.

I love my surname (even kept it when I got married and we called our children by my surname too!)

However, I do like the surname Bellamy because it sounds attractive said aloud, I love the French language and 'bel ami' means good friend.

Elizabeth Bellamy - classy ... unlike my Christian name which was very unusual when I was born but became popular 10 or 15 years later.

fairieswearboots · 01/06/2012 23:14

Elizabeth Grey

PrettyInDecadence · 02/06/2012 10:51

I would love the surname Montgomery, don't know why but I've always liked it. For some reason I also wanted an alliterative name, so I think if I could choose I would be Mary Montgomery.

FanjoPingpong · 02/06/2012 18:36

Elizabeth Greenwood

nizlopi · 02/06/2012 18:39

I changed my surname when I was 18 to my mothers maiden name as I had always preferred it. I love my first name though, I'd never change it.

lancelottie · 02/06/2012 18:41

Darn it, I was just about to post that I'd like to be an Elizabeth... looks like that would be the MN Self-Named top ten all right.

frutilla · 02/06/2012 18:56

Apollonia Hunt would do me, though I'd probs be nn'ed Polly...

TitsalinaBumSquash · 02/06/2012 19:04

I really dislike my name (Charlotte) although no offence to those with it, it just isn't me, and I've spent my whole life as Charlee, Cha, Char... You get the gist.

My various family surnames have all been ripe for mocking so I have always stuck with my estranged from birth father's surname which is as dull as dishwater but at least un-mockable.

I would have loved to have been an Amber or a Megan, possibly a Delilah with Love as a surname, something nice and happy. Smile

WantAnOrange · 02/06/2012 20:11

I really like my first name (Leah). I would call DD it but it's already taken! Grin

MarshmallowFarm · 02/06/2012 20:14

Have always thought I'd write a book with a heroine called Elisabeth Tait so I guess that's my preferred name!

Interesting how a few of us have gone for Elizabeth/Elisabeth...

I hate my name. Forename incredibly common (5 in my class at school) and surname is just odd!

Pandygirl · 02/06/2012 20:17

Oh another one who would have chosen Elizabeth here......

My never-born daughter would have been called Alexandra Elizabeth Mary

I have a one syllable surname and would prefer something a bit longer.

whatlauradid · 02/06/2012 20:17

I like the surname Cartwright. I love the name Lydia so Lydia Cartwright.

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 02/06/2012 20:19

I'm tempted by the surname Fox-Wilder now, a crossover from that other thread on here and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

And first name - I'd like one with nickname potential like Elizabeth or Catherine. I have a 3 syllable name that's never shortened and with no obvious nickname.

Nobhead · 02/06/2012 20:19

I like the name Leah too- if we have a DD it's defo my 1st choice. I like my 1st name and prefer my married name to my maiden name.
In fantasy world I'd like to be called Melissa or Rachel.

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/06/2012 20:20

I would have prefered my MN as my FN. its Nadine. My surname MUST be made up as no-one else in the world seems to have it, after fruitless searches.

I'd be happy with a normal one.

Nadine Hunter?

monkeymoma · 02/06/2012 20:21

I want Felicity Fox-Wilde now after that other thread Grin

I like my first name and love my married surname! I don't think I'ld change it
