Realised we made a huge mistake re. DC's surname!

Have name changed as this is massively outing. When DC1 was born DH and I weren't yet married so decided to give DS a double barrelled name as I didn't want to have a completely different surname to him. All was good, we thought it sounded good at the time and, actually, it does work with his first name. However it sounds utterly crap with everything we like for DC2.

The surname is Fox-Wilde and now I kind of think it doesn't work well at all. DC1 is in reception so knows his name etc, but would it be weird if
a) DC1 and DC2 have slightly different surnames (DC2 would just be Wilde which is DH's surname)
b) we changed DC1's surname to just Wilde?

I think Fox-Wilde sounds fine - both names are short, one syllable names so together don't sound longer than most surnames.

I can think of many names that would sound nice with that surname, actually. And it is nice to honour your family's and your dh's family name.

queenofthepirates · 01/06/2012 15:36

What a superb surname! Very forthright and confident.

If you're not okay with it though, I can't imagine it would be a huge deal to shorten it informally but unless it's by deed poll (or whatever's needed for children to change names), they'll always be an issue with passports, bank accounts...

I'd suggest having different surnames, or change yours to Fox Wilde so they match if you want. It reflects the period in your lives and the history is interesting, it makes your DS1 special. I would be honoured to be called Fox Wilde.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 01/06/2012 15:39

At least it's not Wilde-Fox Grin

Honestly, I like it.

As you have already namechanged and outed yourself completely - what is your DC1's name and what names do you like for DC2.

Are you going to get married? If not would you consider changing your name to Wilde?

GoPoldark · 01/06/2012 15:44

Why not have DC2 surname as Fox-Wilde too?

In fact, why not double barrel the whole family?

It's much better than Wilde!

EmpireBiscuit · 01/06/2012 15:53

I would LOVE this surname! Everything would go, how cool would little Max Fox-Wilde be, or Anna Fox-Wilde, or Mairi Fox-Wilde, or Thomas Fox-Wilde....you get the picture.

sigh stupid DH and his boring name.

squoosh · 01/06/2012 15:57

I LOVE the name Fox-Wilde. So cool, don't dare change it.

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 15:58

God, it's a brilliant surname, how can you think of changing it?

(not even joking).

Change your name too, I would Grin

IslaValargeone · 01/06/2012 16:01

I think it's a great name.

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 16:02

Oooh

Alexander Fox-Wilde - would be deeply gorgeous

Gregory Fox-Wilde - international show jumper

Emily Fox-Wilde - famous actor

Julia Fox-Wilde - ballet dancer

Fuck it, I'm going to write a book based on the Fox-Wilde dynasty.

LittleWhiteWolf · 01/06/2012 16:03

That's an awesome last name!

iloveACK · 01/06/2012 16:04

I agree with the others - its a fab surname Grin

gnocci · 01/06/2012 16:07

Fab name! I'm sure you can find something that goes with it! Tell us the names you like :)

ebbandflow · 01/06/2012 16:09

It is a lovely surname, what first names do you have in mind? I like the name Julian(Jules) oh and Jude with it.

Catsdontcare · 01/06/2012 16:11

I'm not normally a fan of double barrelled names but fox Wilde is great

McKayz · 01/06/2012 16:12

I agree it is a great name!!

I would love to be a Fox-Wilde!!

IslaValargeone · 01/06/2012 16:13

Rupert Fox-Wilde, Alexander Fox-Wilde
Fabulous, I'm already earmarking your son as a potential suitor for my daughter :o

DogEared · 01/06/2012 16:14

Agree with others. It would be a cruelty not to bestow Fox-Wilde on a child. The only names it doesn't go with are Bear or Samantha. :o

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 16:15

Oh god

Rupert Fox-Wilde

IslaValargeone · 01/06/2012 16:15

He's not a Kevin is he?

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 16:16

DogEared may I also suggest 'Hunter' as a no no Grin

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 16:17

Lol at Kevin, or maybe a Jayden-Lee.

< then panics in case he is>

FizzyLaces · 01/06/2012 16:18

As long as you aren't planning on calling your next child Silver, I don't see any problem:)

GobblersKnob · 01/06/2012 16:19

Op come back, we all love the name.

We are all in agreement (except you obviously) this is a very. rare. thing.

Come revel in the fabness of your childrens surname.
