Realised we made a huge mistake re. DC's surname!

Have name changed as this is massively outing. When DC1 was born DH and I weren't yet married so decided to give DS a double barrelled name as I didn't want to have a completely different surname to him. All was good, we thought it sounded good at the time and, actually, it does work with his first name. However it sounds utterly crap with everything we like for DC2.

The surname is Fox-Wilde and now I kind of think it doesn't work well at all. DC1 is in reception so knows his name etc, but would it be weird if
a) DC1 and DC2 have slightly different surnames (DC2 would just be Wilde which is DH's surname)
b) we changed DC1's surname to just Wilde?

You could change DS1 to Jesse Fox Wilde with Fox as a middle name then all be Wilde. I've had children at school name change before with no problems.

I do like Fox-Wilde though :)

MinnieBar · 01/06/2012 17:49

Brilliant surname - you should all be Fox-Wildes forthwith.

It is rather Jilly Cooper, but in a fabulous way.

We did the double-barrelled thing (for various complicated reasons) and it's merely a mouthful that needs constant spelling-out and is nowhere near as cool.

I have double-barrell envy Envy

Wasn't there a Wild movement in England in the seventies where some people railed against the nuclear family set up and saw communal living as the future? They all changed their surname to Wild to represent that everyone was part of the same free spirited family.

Or did I imagine that?

MrsRhettButler · 01/06/2012 18:34

I have a surname that other people are jealous of and even I'm Envy of your dc's! If were you I'd defo change all to Fox-Wilde

MrsRhettButler · 01/06/2012 18:37

Forgot to say, Jesse and Gus both sound amazing with Fox-Wilde!

They have to be famous with names like that!

StupidSurname · 02/06/2012 10:47

Squoosh you have hit the nail on the head! Hmm not sure if I should be encouraging DH to double barrel his name Wink

Buntingbunny · 03/06/2012 22:03

It's brilliant, leave it alone.

As others have said it works because they are both short. The double barrelled DC I know has one that is a real mouth full.

Pixieonthemoor · 06/06/2012 14:49

Gus, Ivo and Zia all go really well IMO.

Lucky kids with SUCH a fab surname!!

Aribura · 07/06/2012 20:20

Ivan instead of Ivo?
Romily or Romana as fn for Romy?

Jenda · 08/06/2012 22:38

"You could change DS1 to Jesse Fox Wilde with Fox as a middle name then all be Wilde"

thats what I was going to suggest! But I love the name, its fab. My fave names are Gus Fox-Wilde and Coby Fox-Wilde (think Jesse and Coby go nicely). To me Ivo sounds like "I've a fox....

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 09/06/2012 12:57

I Am not a fan of double barrelled surnames but fox-Wilde is amazing! I love it. I'd keep it personally and play around with the first names.

UnSocialite · 09/06/2012 13:03

That's a fab name! I didn't even consider taking DH's name but he's insisted the DC's have it. They are all now Otters.

bochead · 11/06/2012 05:14

Gustav Fox-Wilde?

Thinking of the composer Gustav Holst.
