I am going round in circles.

If I list my current shortlist and my other dcs names please can you give me your views on the list, and also any other ideas are really welcome.

Current Shortlist: (changes daily though!)

Cecilia
Cecily
Alice
Elinor (but don't like Ellie)
Arabella (but see other dds names)
Catherine (Kitty?)
Felicity
Imogen
Miranda
Martha

Other dds are

Alexandra - but known by her middle name of Poppy
Isabella
Phoebe

ds's are

Charles (Charlie)
Edward (Ned).

I am probably overthinking this now but she is 2 weeks old and i am getting fed up with being asked by everyone if "I've named that baby yet". I got called a cruel mother yesterday for not naming her!.

I had thought to stick with Cecily, but reactions from people haven't been very good and dh isn't very keen on it although he is willing to go along with it. also the other dds all have a view on the name, as does DH. I can't find one that seems to the one. Would like to avoid top 10 names - when we named Isabella it was in the 40s in the list and now it has shot up and I slightly regret using it now.

(I realise that I have completely outed myself to those people who know me in RL, so hello if you know me!).

Before I even read your shortlist I was going to suggest either Cecelia or Cecily I wasn't allowed those names but DD picked Cecelia as her confirmation name:)

FriskyMare · 26/05/2012 20:02

Your other children have beautiful names btw, and congratulations on dc number 6!

StrawberryMojito · 26/05/2012 20:04

I love Alice, it is one of my favourites. Out of Cecily or Cecilia, I prefer Cecily but not madly keen. Go for Alice!

Ammz · 26/05/2012 20:20

Athelia Alice ?

Hamaysha

I wouldnt go with any of the ones on your shortlist because they are obviously not the right one (if they were you would have named her by now!!) I would take a day off and go for a day out with all the family. Forget about the naming, have a wonderful day and remember why you have a family.. feel the love surrounding you and It will come to you...!!

MoonlightandRoses · 26/05/2012 20:28

Shame about the George connection - Georgiana is usually pronounced 'Georgie-anna', but apparently the Duchess of that name was used to be called 'George-aina'.

I don't think it's so common nowadays, but how about 'Anne'?

loobylu3 · 26/05/2012 20:51

I will PM you my DD1's name so as not to identify myself totally!

I love those flower names too but they are a bit alternative and not for everyone.
If I was to look at your other DC's names and pick something in a smiler style, I would choose something like:
Julia/ Juliet
Eliza (possibly with Elizabeth as the fn)
Marianna/ Marianne
Susanna(h)
Rosemary
Penelope (vetoed already which is a shame)
Jemima
Camilla
I still love Cecilia and Miranda for you.

JubileeTheKid · 26/05/2012 23:46

Annie?

HandMadeTail · 26/05/2012 23:52

Put all the names you like in a hat. Draw out one. This will be "the" name.

(But it may be that in that moment when you have the name chosen for you, you get a moment of clarity, when you know the right name, and will go with it.)

StepOutOfSpring · 27/05/2012 09:35

Miranda Felicity
Miranda Constance
Felicity Miranda
Cecilia Mirabelle
Cassia Felicity
Melissa Constance
Miriam Alice

puddle2 · 27/05/2012 11:33

Congratulations! You have chosen some lovely names for your other children.
Cecliy/Cecilia - how about Celia (Celie as nn?)
Camilla/Milla/Milly
Elizabeth/Betty
Katherine/Kitty is beautiful
Love Martha, also like Ivy and other 'old lady' type names but not sure they 'fit' as well with your other children. Martha works though.
I'll keep thinking. Looking forward to hearing your choice!

darlingdds2 · 27/05/2012 12:16

Hi, there is only one name that will do in my opinion, one which will go with all your names: Natasha!

smother · 28/05/2012 11:21

Cecilia, Cecily, Alice, Felicity - all pretty, airy and light... Only Alice is personally to my taste but I can appreciate the others are nice names too.
Elinor, Arabella - too similar in sound to other DD names? Don't like this spelling of Elinor.
Catherine (Kitty?) - love Kate.
Imogen, Miranda - ok.
Martha - my favourite of the bunch.

Other suggestions (not that you need more!)
Miriam
Clarissa
Clara
Ellen

Good luck. Let us know what you decide!

PrisonerOfWaugh · 28/05/2012 11:29

Orianne / Orianna ?
Iris
Genevive
Leonore

MerryMarigold · 28/05/2012 11:30

I LOVE Miranda, Was just talking about this yesterday with dh. Our dd is a real Miranda, or Claudia - but is named neither. Also love Cecily. I am Eleanor, but no-one calls me Ellie except a brief stint at school. I always refer yo myself as Eleanor so people follow. I get a few Ell's/ Elle's from good friends but I don't mind that. I really like my name!

Cecilia (love that too - Cece for short), Miranda could be Mimi for short

I like your list, can't think of better. Tamsin? (The problem is Tammy for short)

MerryMarigold · 28/05/2012 11:31

Leonie?

Frontpaw · 28/05/2012 12:12

I love the name Leonie!

forcedinsomnia · 28/05/2012 12:20

Tilly or Connie.

That's what you should call her....haha. Wink

I like your names(not keen on Miranda or Martha)....but love love love Tilly and it fits in with your names wonderfully.

MummyPigandDaddyPig · 28/05/2012 12:33

Mirabella? Very pretty and very underused!

JudithTaverner · 28/05/2012 12:34

hi all, thanks for all of your input.

i've decided on Cecily Alice Mabel. (last name slightly up for discussion with the dds who want to have Daisy in there). I did what someone suggested and didn't think about it at all yesterday. I've told people and am getting good reactions.

I see the point about all the names being similar (soft sounding, lots of Ls) and wondered about putting a strong Miranda type name in there for the future. Who knows. Perhaps I need a 5th dd for that!

GnocchiNineDoors · 28/05/2012 12:36

can I ask, as i've never met one, how would you pronounce Cecily. Is it SESS-illy or ses-ILLY or another option?

fallingandlaughing · 28/05/2012 12:41

Congratulations.

Lovely.

I don't think it matters whether you have Daisy or Mabel so maybe go for Daisy if your DDs are keen?

rockinhippy · 28/05/2012 12:54

Lovely choice & congratulations :)

@ Gnocchi The Cecily I know, is pronounced SeeSilly but goes by Ceci (SeeSee)

GnocchiNineDoors · 28/05/2012 13:01

Ahhhhh...a third option! Grin a friend has the nickname CeCi (because a toddler we know couldn't pronouce Lyndsay) and I always thought what a lovely nickname

eatyourveg · 28/05/2012 13:15

Stick with cecily alice mabel its lovely tho' I think I'd change the order to cecily mabel alice.
