I am going round in circles.

If I list my current shortlist and my other dcs names please can you give me your views on the list, and also any other ideas are really welcome.

Current Shortlist: (changes daily though!)

Cecilia
Cecily
Alice
Elinor (but don't like Ellie)
Arabella (but see other dds names)
Catherine (Kitty?)
Felicity
Imogen
Miranda
Martha

Other dds are

Alexandra - but known by her middle name of Poppy
Isabella
Phoebe

ds's are

Charles (Charlie)
Edward (Ned).

I am probably overthinking this now but she is 2 weeks old and i am getting fed up with being asked by everyone if "I've named that baby yet". I got called a cruel mother yesterday for not naming her!.

I had thought to stick with Cecily, but reactions from people haven't been very good and dh isn't very keen on it although he is willing to go along with it. also the other dds all have a view on the name, as does DH. I can't find one that seems to the one. Would like to avoid top 10 names - when we named Isabella it was in the 40s in the list and now it has shot up and I slightly regret using it now.

(I realise that I have completely outed myself to those people who know me in RL, so hello if you know me!).

Ooh Blythe is a LOVELY name.

Honor
I like Arabella but also like Arbella, which is very different (name of a Stuart heiress)
Henrietta

Ample · 25/05/2012 17:32

I love the name Catherine (as well as Kitty) from your list but I'm baised as I have one myself Smile.
I like Cecily and Imogen.

Not keen on Cecilia (Cecily is fresher imho) and I don't like Elinor/Eleanor for the same reason as you - nn Ellie

I like Alice but it is becoming more and more popular (if you already have regrets naming dd1) and there seems to be a lot of Daisy's about..

Caroline
Juilet
Rosalind
Elspeth
Eliza
Beatrix
Louisa
Lydia
Verity
Violet
Daphne
Helena

There used to be a website (prob a US site) where you could put in sibling names and they would give you a selection of suitable names to compliment. Can't think of the name of it now though, sorry not much help there!

Ample · 25/05/2012 17:34

Oh I do LOVE Blythe. I regret I didn't get to use it as a mn as my dh vetoed.

Use it if you can Smile

JudithTaverner · 25/05/2012 17:40

I like the idea of getting the other children to give her middle names - so i asked them. Her middle names would therefore be Elinor Alice Daisy and er Pinkie.

I don't really like Sophia and have a problem with Helena and the pronounciation as I'd be constantly correcting people I think (like the Helaina pronounciation). I do like Nell as a nn but it is v common at my dds school. (as is Alice actually).
Can't have Hattie as my niece is called this.
will scrap Arabella from the list now and also Martha.
so list is now

Cecily
Cecilia
Miranda
Felicity
Catherine/Kitty
Alice (middle name I think)
Thea (added - I like Theodora best I think)

can't have Juliet - it's my boss's name and I relate it too much to use it.

and Imogen's still on there too!

I love Immy as a shortening. But I agree that it's getting v popular - it's a sign that if I like a name it's going to head up into the top 20 pretty soon.

get0rfm0iland · 25/05/2012 17:46

Ooh Theodora. That is lovely. That or Catherine imo (I prefer the Katharine spelling fwiw).

AmandaLF · 25/05/2012 17:52

What about Lieslotte (or lottie)
Millie

AmandaLF · 25/05/2012 17:53

Sorry it's spelt lieselotte

1950sHousewife · 25/05/2012 18:01

They are all lovely names (except for Miranda, I just have Miranda Hart stuck in my brain)
Alice is classic and gorgeous.
Caution with Imogen, it's heavenly but getting v popular.

I don't understand why Cecily is getting bad reactions, it might be because it sounds a little wet? But it is a pretty name.

Daisy and Kitty will date. They are pretty but very 5 years ago.
Martha is gorgeous. That's my vote.

(My suggestion? The name of our DD3 if we'd had one - Cleodie. Sigh. I wish I'd had another girl just to use it!)

Stellan · 25/05/2012 18:04

Your children have lovely names so I think you'll choose well for your newest arrival. I like all of the names on your list. Part of me wants to tell you to go with Cecily as you've asked about it a few times now and I think, 'Yes, it's still there, you still like it; go for it - it's the one!'

Poppy, Isabella, Phoebe, Charlie, Ned, and Cecily - it sounds right. Cecily Alice sounds lovely too.

If not Cecily, I'd go with Felicity (Fliss is a very sweet nickname) or Catherine/Kitty. I think they sound different from your other girls' names but blend in well.

Imogen, Theodora, Miranda and Cecilia are all fab but I wonder if they might be a bit clunky for day-to-day use.

Shodan · 25/05/2012 18:05

Cecily nn Cece is very pretty.

I love Imgoen too, always have.

I think there might be a rash of Catherines, for obvious reasons, if you're concerned about popularity.

In two minds about Felicity- it's a lovely name but might be forever doomed to be nn'd Flick (not sure you feel about that!)

Shodan · 25/05/2012 18:05

Gah.

Imogen. Not Imgoen.

Although could be interesting and unique new name. Grin

youarekidding · 25/05/2012 18:15

What about Alice Daisy?

Only thing I would say would be a problem with this is if your Isabella is an Isi and you think Alice will become an Ali! If Isabella is Isabella or Bella it would work!

CakeBump · 25/05/2012 18:16

Cecilia is our number one if this DC ends up being a girl.

Others on the list are
Dorothea (fits with you liking the nn Thea?)
Mathilda

I love Cecily but it doesn't work in the country where we live....

elliejjtiny · 25/05/2012 18:26

Out of your list I like Imogen and Catherine

Other suggestions:
Sophie
Lydia
Jennifer
Naomi
Charlotte

elliejjtiny · 25/05/2012 18:27

Just thought of another one: Marianne

Frontpaw · 25/05/2012 18:31

Mariangela

Virgil · 25/05/2012 18:32

Cecily. Definitely. Would be my dd's name if I had one (surrounded by boys in this house) Grin

CakeBump · 25/05/2012 18:32

Genevieve?

Bonsoir · 25/05/2012 18:33

Violet
Clementine

peachypips · 25/05/2012 18:47

I love violet! But from your list still Imogen or kitty.

timetoask · 25/05/2012 18:50

My vote goes for Martha from your list. It goes really well with your other children's names and it is a very elegant lovely name.

eatyourveg · 25/05/2012 18:52

Felicity Alice or Imogen Daisy

Trestle · 25/05/2012 19:06

Cecilia, Felicity and Miranda are my favourites from your latest shortlist :)

Cecily - OK
Cecilia - like, more "flowing" than Cecily, and patron saint of music is nice connection
Miranda - like
Felicity - like
Catherine/Kitty - Catherine is OK, dislike Kitty (cat nickname)
Alice (middle name I think) - a bit dull
Thea (added - I like Theodora best I think) - don't like
