What do you think of Lux?

I love it and so does my DH. We had a family friend that we were very close to called Lux and she died recently and we'd like to use the name but have no idea what other peoples reactions would be. She was the only Lux I'd ever met so I assume it isn't a popular name.

I know it was a character name in Virgin Suicides which doesn't bother me, I like the film. There was a detergent called Lux too, but I doubt many under 20 years old would have ever heard of it now so don't think that would be a problem when baby is older if you see what I mean.

Thanks guys, I think we'll go for it. DH really loves it and loves the connection to our friend too but I just wanted to see what peoples reactions were to it. Some have said they hate it, but plenty have said they like it. Thats enough for me. I'd never find something everyone loves anyway.

Good for you, OP.

Personally I don't really like it, but you probably wouldn't like my DCs names.

I do like that it's different, though, and not another Charlie/Sophie. Smile

Actually, I think it's one of those names that could grow on me.

Catsmamma · 13/04/2012 13:09

how would you say it??

is the u an uh sound ...puck or more the oooo sound like luke??

Not keen either way really.

lunamoon · 13/04/2012 13:11

Lux reminds me of soap. But if it is a name that you hold dear then go for it.

yousankmybattleship · 13/04/2012 13:13

It is lovely to want to choose the name because of someone you cared for. I really don't like it though I'm afraid and it really does only make me think of soap. There are worse things to be associated with though!

glastocat · 13/04/2012 13:14

Soap. Luxembourg.Just silly.

TeWihara · 13/04/2012 13:18

Good for you OP, good luck with your baby.

SneakyBiscuitEater · 13/04/2012 13:20

I love it. I do like x names in general though, DS has two x names.

BBQJuly · 13/04/2012 14:26

Soap.

I'd go for Lucy/Lucia instead.

eurochick · 13/04/2012 14:31

It says soap to me. Sorry.

fivecrazymonkeys · 13/04/2012 16:17

I remember soap too - and so do lots of others on here! How about Lexi??

Pinkzoo · 13/04/2012 17:11

Soap

sashh · 13/04/2012 23:07

Sorry I thought soap too

SLVC · 13/04/2012 23:18

I think it's a lovely idea to name a child after your friend, and personally haven't heard of the soap..

MummysLittleSunbeams · 14/04/2012 07:14
  1. Soap
  2. Bloody Jo Wiley & her trying-way-too-hard-to-be-hip names!
fanjodisfunction · 14/04/2012 10:14

I really like it and it has a wonderful meaning to you, naming your child after someone you both loved is lovely. You should deffinlty go for it.

tunaday · 14/04/2012 11:20

If I heard the name and hadn't seen it typed first I'd think she was called 'Looks.' Soap too. Yes, there is a choral work called Lux Eterna. It's very very beautiful/ethereal but funerial.

fluffygal · 14/04/2012 11:44

I like it, there are so many names which are used for products/objects which are perfectly acceptable names. There is a 4 year old at our gym called Seven, was a bit Hmm to start with (mainly as the beckhams have now used it for their girl) but hey, its his name, people are used to it and the other kids don't bat an eyelid. Go for it if you love it!

lifesrichpageant · 14/04/2012 11:49

I love it. Simple, easy to spell and pronounce, but very unique.

I also think that you need to go with what you and DH really like. As soon as you start soliciting advice, you're going to get lots of people saying it's crap - even for the simplest, least offensive name you could think of.

It's so hard to find a name that you both like that I think you should go for it.

And if you knew someone close to you with this name, especially someone that passed away recently, that could/should easily shut the naysayers up.

Soory, but it screams out soap to me as well. Children won't realise, but adults will automatically think of soap. I also don't like the words that it rhymes with.

So, it's a no from me.

But my opinion doesn't matter, although, by asking on here it means you did want to know what other people thought.

notso · 14/04/2012 12:15

I really like Jo Whiley's first three DC names.
Not keen on Coco Lux though.
I never get the trying too hard comment about names though' trying too hard to be/do what? Confused
