Hit me with Welsh boys names

Really struggling to find a Welsh boy's name that we like, I've been through them all just about, and while I like some, they all have drawbacks. DS has got the one boy's name we liked and works for our wider family (pronunciation and so on).

Be grateful for suggestions other than what's in the Heini Gruffudd welsh names for children book.

Thanks all. I like Macsen, that's been taken by a colleague recently but we won't seeing much of them in future due to changing circumstances so that could be a winner.

Really like Rhodri, but so many people pronounce it Rodri, missing the h at the beginning, which spoils it for me. Girls names are so much easier!

Girls definitely easier - we couldn't decide on any boys names either. Luckily we have 2 girls!

Have you looked in the Meic Stephens book? here I had this one and the Heini Gruffudd one and if I can remember correctly there were some different names in there.

Ooo no not seen the Meic Stephens one, will look it up. Like Gwion but neighbours who we do mix with have a Gwion. Really like Aneirin (spelt this way) with Nye for short. That's probably our front runner but it doesn't really grab me like my DS's name did. Osian is a bit overdone by people I know too.

Ianto is cute but the only person I've known with this name, well I couldn't bloody stand the obnoxious git

What are your thoughts on Hedd? It's the pronunciation which worries me with this one.

Idris is great on Idris Elba but it's definitely an 82 year old man with a dai cap where i live

Rhodri is my absolute favorite too, doesn't seem to be much trouble pronouncing the 'h' around here but I suppose it depends where you live, apart from that;

Idris is an old man round here too but I've still wanted to call all my boys it (vetoed by DH every time )

i always use my Dad as the pronunciation test. He's born and brought up in Wales but tends to drop his 'h's and make a bit of a mouthful of anything starting with 'll'.

Llyr is DS's middle name, would have used it as a first name but went with my other favourite which was easier to pronounce. Kind of regret using it up now.

We're Smith, so Llew Smith would be an ex MP who had views I really didn't agree with, but i may get over this as Llew is a really bloody good name!

I like Hedd very much but doubt you would get anything nearing correct pronunciation outside Welsh speaking areas.

Llew to me would be a lovely Welsh speaking, tall, rugby playing teen who was a real softy and kind to his mam!

I like Tudur SoMuch. Teifion too, Ieuan? (quite hard to pronounce but the I met the rugby player once and he kissed me on the cheek and I've had a massive soft spot ever since )

Keener or Ieuan than the other two and I think people would get the pronunciation because of Ieuan Evans but doesn't grab me. Do you think we could get away with Llew Smith?

it's more like the 'th' in that than the 'th' in cloth.

Hedd is lovely but I think that sadly only a minority of people (even in Wales) would pronounce it correctly.

I think llew smith sounds a good strong name as long as it being the same as the mp won't bother you in the long run?

I can't get my head round how hedd would sound! Even though it looks like it should be a simple pronunciation, if you're not sure many people, even in wales, would pronounce it right it could be very annoying for you and yr soon to be ds having to tell everyone the right way to say it.

yeah I think I could get over the MP thing but a Llew I know often gets called 'Lou'.

We like Wil, but as Men in Black 3 is out this year we'll give that a miss too....

You're right max, I think it will be a great middle name
