(Because I'm not wanting to be part of the trend of out-poshing one another with names. And don't care very much for the usual mn suggestions of Quentin or Clemancy etc)

Anyway...here goes

Noah
Jasper
Zachary
(all middle name William)
Sophia
Jasmine
Eliza
(all middle name Violet)

I know they are seen as common as muck names but I couldn't give too hoots Grin we like the names but obviously need to narrow it down to one of each.

Noah and Zachary are two of my favourite boys' names. I narrowly prefer Noah but think Zachary goes better with William. Not keen on Jasper.

Quite like Sophia, Jasmine is okay, don't really like Eliza. Sophia Violet sounds lovely.

EdithWeston · 08/02/2012 22:41

I like Jasper best of the boys, followed by Zachary. And Eliza best for a girl, followed by Sophia.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 08/02/2012 22:41

Are they common as muck? I like them all but I'd go for Zachary or Jasmine.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 08/02/2012 22:45

Noah and Eliza. Really lovely.

BillyBollyBandy · 08/02/2012 22:47

I think they are a bit poncey Grin in a nice way. I like all of them and I is well posh Wink

I like Noah and Eliza, although my fav name is Violet. Wuld you not conside that as a first name?

PeanutButterCupCake · 08/02/2012 22:47

Sofia and zac or Noah are lovely Smile

JasperJohns · 08/02/2012 22:48

Chavvy? Noooo, they are not. They are all lovely names.

lisad123 · 08/02/2012 22:50

Zachary might be linked with idiot from HSM!! Jasper is a main charater in twilight movies. Both of which are aimed at the teens who might be having LO sometimes soon.

Love Jasmine but be prepared for someone to shorten it!

LynetteScavo · 08/02/2012 22:50

Are they common as muck names? Confused

I like Jasper and Eliza best.

ReneeVivien · 08/02/2012 22:51

They're really lovely names. Yes, they're having a bit of a 'moment', but they are gorgeous and you should go for it. My favourites are Noah (followed by Jasper) and Jasmine (followed by sophia).

Sl1nkyMalinki · 08/02/2012 22:53

Noah and Eliza.

fwiw I don't think the names you have on your shortlist are chavvy!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 08/02/2012 23:04

I have a five year old Noah. Apparently they are everywhere. I know non bar on MN.

ReneeVivien · 08/02/2012 23:06

I think they must all live in Crouch End or Stoke Newington, UFP. I live in a very middle class SW London suburb, and I don't know any Noahs.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 08/02/2012 23:08

I live in Manchester Grin

mummybare · 08/02/2012 23:12

Jasper and Sophia for me. Lovely names and not even a whiff of chavviness if you ask me!

startail · 08/02/2012 23:49

Jasmine violet is a bit of a floral over load.
Sophia or Eliza is fine although I prefer plain Sophie.
I like Noah and I only know one and he's about 15.

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2012 23:57

Noah and Eliza

EchoBitch · 08/02/2012 23:59

Oh Sir Jasper!

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 09/02/2012 00:19

I love Noah William that's really lovely. I do know a few Noahs but not loads. Also know a couple of Jaspers and maybe 4/5 Zachs.

I like Sophia or Eliza for a girl. Jasmine is nice, but too much with Violet as a middle name. I know a few Sophias, 2 Jasmines and 1 Eliza.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with any of them tbh, they're all nice.

NadiaWadia · 09/02/2012 03:20

Zachary is great and Sophia or maybe Eliza

Jasper is a wasp or a pantomime villian. Dislike Noah.

Jasmine is pretty in itself but with the Violet, as others say, a bit of a floral overload.

yeahinaminutetheoriginal · 09/02/2012 03:38

just go with what you feel .... it's entirely up to you and your DP ..everyone has an opinion ... but all that matters is what you like, what you feel is right and what you're happy with ... a virtual forum is not the place to canvass opinion .. you won't be right for being wrong ... However i like
Eliza
not too fussed over the boy's names but if I had to pick one it would be a swap round...William Noah

rachel234 · 09/02/2012 07:24

Thankfully we all have different tastes and give our children different names. What matters is that YOU love the name and that it sounds nice with your surname. And some people are more concerned about name popularity than others - there's no right or wrong imo. Personally I like Sophia (but am biased as dd's name) but am not keen on your boys names.

PopcornBiscuit · 09/02/2012 07:56

Zachary William for a boy.

Jasmine Violet sounds lovely but too floral with Violet as middle name? Sophia and Eliza too much "i" sound with Violet, although I do like Sophia. Eliza too nicknamey for me (how about Elizabeth Violet with Eliza as nickname?)

lottiegb · 09/02/2012 08:19

Common as in commonly used amongst the comfortably middle classes over the last few years? That's hardly the same as 'chavvy' - of that part of the non-working underclass others feel free to disparage, is it. I'm confused.

I think Jasmine might have a wider 'class range' than the others, though all names can be mobile. It is a bit overpoweringly floral with Violet, though it's a lovely name. Personally I don't like Jasper. Your child will become their name in the context of the people they know.

strawberrypenguin · 09/02/2012 08:35

I like all of them :) if I were you I wouldn't bother trying to narrow it down further now, you have 3 lovely options to pick from wait until you meet your DC and see which fits them. ( we did this btw and it worked well, our favourite of the 3 we had was discounted by DH and I almost instantly as we both felt it didn't suit our DS)
