Please don't tell me these are too common or chavvy

(Because I'm not wanting to be part of the trend of out-poshing one another with names. And don't care very much for the usual mn suggestions of Quentin or Clemancy etc)

Anyway...here goes

Noah
Jasper
Zachary
(all middle name William)
Sophia
Jasmine
Eliza
(all middle name Violet)

I know they are seen as common as muck names but I couldn't give too hoots Grin we like the names but obviously need to narrow it down to one of each.

Thanks everyone. Someone suggested using violet as the first name and another suggested William as first instead of middle.

Cant so this as they are names of my deceased grandparents and my sister has already named her two William and Violet. The cow!

I know 4 Jazmines (and 2 Yasmines) all under age 8. 1 Noah 1 Sophia So I wouldnt say any of them are overly common though personally I would stay away from Jazmine due to the number I know.

bigbluebump · 09/02/2012 10:47

I think Jasmine Violet sounds nicest. Eliza Violet in particular doesn't work that well due to the double 'i' sound imo.

I quite like Noah from your boys list, but am less kann on Zach or Jasper. But perhaps we have different taste because we have a Quentin (which you seem to dislike Smile).

Good luck!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 09/02/2012 10:52

Not common as in 'as muck', but I think there will be a lot of Noah's around in infant schools in four years time! I like Jasper and Eliza best.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 09/02/2012 10:53

I'd avoid ending up with siblings called Jasmine & Jasper though - could get confusing.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 09/02/2012 10:54

William and Violet then one of your other names as middles.

nenevomito · 09/02/2012 10:54

I never realised those names were as common as muck Shock I must mix in very different circles!

Surf25 · 09/02/2012 11:29

Fwiw I don't think any of these are too common or chavvy but I do think you should name your child a name you love and if you come across other children/babies with the name it's because they love it too! I am biased as have a baby Sophia and think its beautiful and has a lovely meaning - wisdom - and have always loved the name Noah for a boy...also like Jasper and Zachary although don't love the nn Zach...
Love Eliza too. Think any of those work well with the mn you have chosen..incidentally where I live I know only 1 other Sophia (6yrs old) and 1 Jasmine (14 years old.) popularity is relative to lots of different factors

FebreezeYourJeans · 09/02/2012 11:35

Noah and Eliza (although I do teach a y1 class with 2 Noahs at the moment)

Montsti · 09/02/2012 12:03

I like them all bar Jasmine (not sure why!). Order of preference:

Zachary
Noah
Jasper

Eliza/Sophia (can't decide!)
Jasmine...

Good luck!

MrsJohnDeere · 09/02/2012 12:12

I like William much more than the boys names you suggested. I'd use as a first name.

Love Eliza. Not so keen on the others (prob because there are so many of them round here).

birdofthenorth · 09/02/2012 12:47

All lovely. Love Jasper and Noah. Eliza the handsdown favourite from your girl's list imho.

pilates · 09/02/2012 12:52

I like your girl names, Eliza being my favourite.

Not so keen on the boy names, but if had to choose it would be Zachary.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/02/2012 13:14

Eliza and Jasmine are lovely. I really dislike Noah.

hellokitty123 · 09/02/2012 13:54

Do you mean common as in widely used? If so, then Noah, Zach/Zachary, Sophia and Jasmine are quite common round here. And I don't know any little Jaspers.

Why are you so concerned about whether a name is perceived (by some!) as chav or posh - just choose a name you LOVE! Let's let a PERSON make his/her own name, rather than the other way round (i.e. label a person purely based on their name). Also, the parents who like Clemency or Quentin may not try to out-posh each other but rather simply like the names Smile.

ReduceRecycleRegift · 09/02/2012 13:58

I think they're all lovely, rarely see someones full list where I like every one of them!

MarieLloyd · 09/02/2012 15:05

I love Zachary William.

I like all your girls names, although yes, they are all pretty popular, but not a problem if you like them. Eliza Violet is my favourite.

mathanxiety · 09/02/2012 15:48

I love Jasmine and Eliza, and Zachary too.

I find Noah a bit 'wet' and not just because of the Flood. Jasper is more of an Irish Setter name than a name for a child imo. Sophia is lovely but it seems to me to be a very popular name, at least round here it is.

Minty82 · 09/02/2012 17:10

If you're really wanting to canvass personal taste, I love Zachary and Noah, quite like Sophia, and not keen on Jasper or Jasmine. Love Elizabeth too, though I'd be inclined to go for the full name, with Eliza as a nn.

Having said that, Elizabeth Violet instantly conjures up Violet Elizabeth Bott in the William books, but that may just be me!

Littlecherublegs · 09/02/2012 22:27

Zachary and Sophia!

Zac and Sophie are both on our shortlist! Great choices!! Smile

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 09/02/2012 22:29

I like Noah and Eliza but prefer Violet. Would you use that as a first name?

EllenParsons · 10/02/2012 01:33

They aren't "chavvy" or common at all IMO`Confused

Jasmine Violet is a bit too floral together so I would rule that out. Eliza and Sophia both lovely.

The boys' names are nice too. Noah would probably be my first choice, although quite popular. I love William - would you use that as a first name?

nooka · 10/02/2012 02:06

I wouldn't chose Noah because I don't think Noah William flows very well (obviously this depends on the surname too). Personally I'd opt for Elizabeth and then shorten to Eliza, but that's just because I like formal names.

If I were you I'd wait until the baby is born and then opt for the combo that seems to fit him/her best.

winkle2 · 10/02/2012 12:26

Noah and Eliza

Violet is on my list for middle name :)

FetaCheeny · 10/02/2012 20:06

Great choices. My faves would be Zachary and Jasmine, (Zachary is my fave boysname) but also like Noah.
Much prefer Sophie to Sophia for some reason, and really like Violet.
Not so keen on Eliza or Jasper.
You can't go wrong with any of them though and they certainly aren't "common". Popular yes, but the only one I'd consider overly popular is Sophia.
