This name is popular in Russia and the former Russian republics..... I know several Marinas, they are all kind people.

Abcinthia · 04/02/2012 20:17

I think it's nice. Reminds me of the Muscian Marina and the Diamonds.

SherbetDibDab · 04/02/2012 20:17

I like that name

forward · 04/02/2012 20:22

UhOh! My first and only thought is the character in Last of the Summer Wine!

jandymaccomesback · 04/02/2012 20:24

You don't watch "Doctors" then.

Scathac · 04/02/2012 20:27

love this name ... reminds me of the mermaid character from stingray (way back in the 60s)

YummyMummybee · 04/02/2012 20:28

Thanks girls its pretty isnt it! I'm driving myself demented trying to find forms of Mary(my mom!!!). Only problem with Marina is will people keep mixing it up with Maria & she will constantly have to correct people?
Could it be spelt Maryna? Prob not!!!!

Prefer Maria or Mary

Don't think you could spell it Maryna - I would pronounce that Ma-rye-na

meditrina · 04/02/2012 20:32

I still think of the car.

pinkappleby · 04/02/2012 20:36

Just made me think of merina coil. Sorry.

NigellasGuest · 04/02/2012 20:38

Love it - wanted to call DD1 Marina, with nn Minnie, but DH vetoed Sad

jade80 · 04/02/2012 20:41

Last of the summer wine...

DorothyGherkins · 04/02/2012 20:43

Reminds me of the old car model, Marina. And there used to be a puppet in one of the Thunderbirds type series, called Marina (can anyone else sing the song that used to play when she came on?) and I think there are some ancient royals called Marina.

NigellasGuest · 04/02/2012 20:44

no one in the peer group of OP's DD-to-be will have watched LOTSW!

NigellasGuest · 04/02/2012 20:46

or NN could be Marnie.

SnapSnafu · 04/02/2012 20:47

I love it. Went to school with one, Italian background. Ben Fogle's wife is a Marina too.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 04/02/2012 20:48

I think coil too

usualsuspect · 04/02/2012 20:49

Stingray

COCKadoodledooo · 04/02/2012 20:50

The only Marina I know is the engine in my car..

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/02/2012 20:51

I don't like it either. It's where you keep boats, not a name. Sorry.

RoxyRobin · 04/02/2012 20:51

Love Marina - would have used it myself if I'd had a DD.

YummyMummybee · 04/02/2012 20:51

Thanks girls it is cute isnt it? As previously posted love both Polly, Molly & Maisy as forms as Mary. So maybe a solution would be Marina with the option of the above as nickname Nigellas guest Marnie would be a fab nn too.

Any other opinions on the Maryna spelling-I googled it & it can also be spelt like this. Would Maryna eliminate the Maria mistakes & also the association with the marina coil??

I love it.
There used to be a MNer called Marina, she was lovely, I wonder what happened to her.

SharkBite · 04/02/2012 20:54

Wasn't there a Morris Marina?

justonemorethread · 04/02/2012 20:54

Love it! Makes me think of this happy Italian song (which you will probably only love if you're Italian).

I vaguely know a Marina who is a lovely person
