sounds like a Mirena coil to me, sorry

RoxyRobin · 04/02/2012 20:55

DorothyG Thanks - I can't get it out of my head now! 'Marina, Aqua Marina, What are these strange enchantments that start whenever you're near ...'

PopcornBiscuit · 04/02/2012 20:55

Lovely, very pretty.

southeastastra · 04/02/2012 20:56

stingray too, and a place where they keep boats Grin

also what if they can't swim?

DorothyGherkins · 04/02/2012 20:56

Oh well done Roxy, I m sitting here singing the very same!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 04/02/2012 20:58

I love this name, as does DH. Not keen on the Maryna spelling though, and I think it would introduce pointless confusion about pronunciation.

SESthebrave · 04/02/2012 21:00

I know a Marina who is lovely.

However, it always makes me think of a marina, like Brighton Marina and then doesn't really seem like a "proper" name to me.

PutThatCatOutNow · 04/02/2012 21:03

Lovely :)

Elijah · 04/02/2012 21:06

I think having both the r and n in the name makes it too strong and masculine and reminds me of morris marina.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 04/02/2012 21:08

I can appreciate that it is pretty and not overused, but I keep thinking of boats, and lots of teenage jokes about able seamen, any port in a storm, etc etc. however if you like it, go for it, kids will make a joke out of anything .....

nailak · 04/02/2012 21:08

mirena coil

ellesabe · 04/02/2012 21:25

A marina is a place to keep boats. Not keen I'm afraid.

FranticBanana · 04/02/2012 21:26

I too know a lovely Marina (there's obviously a few of them around). She is not fond of her name, and goes by the nn Mina.

DamonSalvatoreIsMyLoveSlave · 04/02/2012 22:15

I thought of the coil too... Sorry

PopcornBiscuit · 04/02/2012 23:13

How about Miranda, Miriam, Marla, Mirabelle, Marianne, Melissa?

LizzieChickens · 04/02/2012 23:45

My local city's got a marina, so for me it's the place with the 24hr Asda, the cheapo cinema and the drug problem. Um. Sorry.

anonymosity · 05/02/2012 04:05

Its the name of the place where people park their boat. However, I have a friend who has a DD with this name, and it suits her.

PopcornBiscuit · 05/02/2012 22:58

But unless you spend a lot of time with people who keep boats does it matter?

gallicgreetings · 05/02/2012 23:14

I like it, surprisingly.

What about Maryam if you want a version of Mary?

PercyFilth · 06/02/2012 10:08

I like Marina, and think of it as a name first. Princess Alexandra's daughter is Marina and was named after her grandmother. There is a Marina in Shakespeare, as well as Mariana which I also like.

jaffacakehips · 06/02/2012 10:10

I really like this name. The first time I heard it I was like...Hmm it's a place where you keep boat but now I love it.

Mazlap · 03/04/2012 17:39

I'm a Marina. I don't mind my name but always get mistakenly called Miranda for some reason (no idea why but it happens all the time) and people often mistype it as Marian which is really annoying. It's also really common in Greece!!

tigrou · 03/04/2012 18:39

I have three friends called Marina and have always found it a lovely name. One occasionally goes by the nn Mina

ThePathanKhansWitch · 03/04/2012 18:40

Marina, Aqua Marina. I quite like it.

Frikadellen · 03/04/2012 19:21

I think it is beautiful
