Hmm, i like it, but it's definitely 'middle-aged'

Marianne is prettier

I don't like it when people use the name of a 'thing' and give it too a person. To me, a marina is where you keep boats.
Hadn't even thought of what toomuchmonthattheendofthemoney said, but she's got a point!

I live too near a harbour to see it as anything other than a dock with moorings.

Ephiny · 04/04/2012 15:03

I like it. Only know one in RL (work colleague), I think she's from Russia. She's in her 20s so I don't think of it as middle-aged.

Don't like the Maryna spelling though, that will be misspelt/mispronounced all the time, better to stick with the 'classic' spelling IMO.

Miranda is lovely too.

Princess Marina of Greece married the Duke of Kent (current Queen's uncle) in 1934. They were seen as a very dashing couple.

Marina has become something of a family name amongst the Kents - the current Duke of Kent has a grand daughter (now about 20?) called Marina and Princess Alexandra (Princess Marina's daughter) named her daughter (born 1966ish) after her mother.

I hate it!

victorialucas · 04/04/2012 16:06

I love it even if it is a bit nautical. There is also Maris(s)a for a variant of Mary.

EvenBetter · 04/04/2012 17:33

A Marina is a thing in a harbour IMO.
There are tonnes of Mary variants including Ariadne :)

squoosh · 04/04/2012 17:43

I like it a lot.

Harbour shmarbour.

MummysLittleSunbeams · 04/04/2012 18:10

Lovely name. I used to love both this & Bianca... until Enders that is.

happybigbump · 04/04/2012 21:43

Marina is lovely - feminine and underused in the UK.

WetAugust · 04/04/2012 22:33

Love it

Jenny Seagrove in Local Hero was called Marina

Devora · 04/04/2012 22:36

I really like it.

EllenParsons · 05/04/2012 00:54

I know 5 Marinas so it doesn't seem too unusual to me - more of a classic. However they are all of Russian or German background so I suppose it probably is rarer in most of the UK. A nice name.

zozzle · 07/04/2012 11:12

Its ok as a name. I knew a Marina once. Always made me think of harbours.
