lovin the name harper

fifitot · 11/07/2011 14:06

Harper is OK.

Like a few others I too got the George Costanza reference!

lilaloves · 11/07/2011 14:10

It still sounds a bit harsh to me, but if they love it.
Harlow has a similar feel but a little more feminine.

hazeyjane · 11/07/2011 14:10

Btw, I believe Harper is a unisex name.

emmanana · 11/07/2011 14:18

Give it a few years, and all you will hear in soft play/nurseries/playgrounds:
'Arpur, git 'ere ya little sod'
'Get orf that swing Arpie'
And no doubt the chavs will invent their own unique spelling of the name, Harpur, Harpurr, Hahper etc
Lovely.

katkitya · 11/07/2011 14:23

What's it got to do with Sienfeld? I thought I was a fan and, I haven't got it!

deardear · 11/07/2011 14:23

i quite like Harper but Seven is just la la land I'm afraid.

swingingcat · 11/07/2011 14:25

I like the name Harper not so keen on Seven but understand the meaning for it.

I went to school with a girl called Harper and that was back in 1970s in the wilds of rural Norfolk!

Megglevache · 11/07/2011 14:26

Really like it. Sorry.

Think it's a very safe and strong name.

And I know one and she is lovely.

And it's a name I'd choose for my own child Grin

katkitya · 11/07/2011 14:29

I don't know why people are having a dig at it tbh and, why wouldn't the Beckhams be Seinfeld fans? Why do the bring out the snobbery in people so much?

fatlazymummy · 11/07/2011 14:32

I didn't even realise these are names. They just sound like words to me. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to call a baby either of these names, especially a girl. [just my opinion of course].

Janus · 11/07/2011 14:44

We had a son 3 months ago and Harper was on our girls list, along with Nel!! In fact when we went to register our son my husband still tried to get Harper as his middle name but I refused (and we had a row in front of the registrar!!) as I thought it was too girlie. He's eating his words this morning!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/07/2011 15:06

i agree it sounds like a space shuttle, but i do like "Harper" on its own.

Dozer · 11/07/2011 15:51

Seven? Have they not seen the film?!

Commiserations momino.

diddl · 11/07/2011 15:52

Maybe VB also liked the connection to Harper´s Bazaar?

(is it still called that?)

DontCallMePeanut · 11/07/2011 16:07

Harper reminds me of harpies... violent winged women from greek mythology... Hmm

jasminder1 · 11/07/2011 16:20

Sounds like a naval vessel IMO!

shonnomanom · 11/07/2011 16:29

I like Harper, its reminds me of the girl in Wizards of Waverley Place

Not sure about Seven as a name, but they usually pick odd stuff for their kids names dont they. At least Harper has it as a middle name and not first name. That would be so much worse!

BearBehavingBadly · 11/07/2011 16:32

I like Harper.
Wonder if VB was looking at the other thread, where we were guessing what she would call her new daughter.
I put a few names down & one of those was Harper Grin

Bandwithering · 11/07/2011 16:32

I think this proves once and for all that Victoria is not a mumsnetter

MooMooFarm · 11/07/2011 16:35

I couldn't give a fart's arse what she's called. But did anybody really expect her to be called Chloe (or something...)?

MelinaM · 11/07/2011 16:39

Yes, it's still Harper's Bazaar Grin

I doubt they've even heard of 'Harpies' Don'tCallMe!!! Grin I've a feeling that 'Harpeia' may start to catch on soon thoughWink

bigbuttons · 11/07/2011 16:46

Her name is going to be the least of that girls problems.

ensure · 11/07/2011 16:50

Harper is a nice name. DD has a friend called Harper.
Seven is a bit weird, but it means something to her dad so that's quite sweet. And maybe they really are Seinfeld fans!

DontCallMePeanut · 11/07/2011 16:50

Harpeia would just be plain EVIL! Shock
