Stella - cute or too quirky?

sarahseager · 07/03/2011 12:40

Just wanted to get people's thoughts on the name Stella.

I hadn't considered this name before yesterday and the more I think of it, the cuter I think it could be and also appropriate for when a little girl grows up into a teenager and beyond.

My only concern is that it could be a little too quirky and might need a little girl to be quite confident with bags of personality to carry it off?!?!

My partner has pretty much ruled it out, but I just wanted to see what peoples opinions of it were :)

Also, our surname is Seager - therefore Stella Seager to me sounds really lovely - but I'm not sure if some people think it would be silly!

Thanks for your help.
Sarah

I do love matching initials. We considered Stella but DP was adamant that people would think we'd named our daughter after a tin of lager Confused

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/03/2011 12:42

I love Stella but I do see it as quite a "feisty" name. It was on our list for dd but I just couldn't quite get past the Artois association Sad

lovely name. classic yet cool. Stella Seager sounds excellent - she could do or be anything. go for it!

Tuschinski · 07/03/2011 12:46

I like it. I wouldn't consider it quirky at all, I think it's quite a classic name.

sarahseager · 07/03/2011 12:46

Ha ha yes my partner keeps saying that people would associate her with lager! :)

It is a lovely name, but the lager association is too much for me, I'm afraid.

eileenslightlytotheleft · 07/03/2011 12:59

Stella Seager is a fabulous name.

freshmint · 07/03/2011 13:02

lager
honestly

so silly

do you think stella tenant has had that problem? stella mccartney? no.

PepsiPopcorn · 07/03/2011 13:05

I like it, and also like Estella which is a bit less lagery!

5DollarShake · 07/03/2011 13:06

No way is it a cute name! I think of it as a strong name.

It wouldn't be on my list personally, but I wouldn't let the lager association put you off - good examples from freshmint.

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 07/03/2011 13:11

I think its a great name. Its not too cute and its quirky without being weird IYKWIM.I don't think the lager association is too strong.

Adair · 07/03/2011 13:14

Love it. And the star meaning too. But dh said lager...

Astra?

Janus · 07/03/2011 13:39

I love it too, would be in my top 3 by my dh immediately said 'no, it's a lager'. We haven't agreed on hardly anything yet so I may still get my way!
If it helps, other top names are Eliza and Nell, don't know if they are really similar to Stella but just a little bit different without being too quirky.

EldonAve · 07/03/2011 13:41

I love it

messylittlemonkey · 07/03/2011 13:44

I like it but don't think it's cute!

meditrina · 07/03/2011 13:47

MacCartney and Tennant were named before the mass-marketing of the lager, and anyhow come from the sort of famous background which is well placed to withstand the vagaries of naming. Check the demographic you think your DD will e moving in.

sarahseager · 07/03/2011 13:47

Thanks everyone, what a great response and some great suggestions too, I think it is definitely one to put on our list! :)

fabulous name!

Curlygirly · 07/03/2011 14:00

Love this name. Was top of my list but at the time dh's horrible boss had a secretary called Stella who was ancient and he couldn't get past that!

Still love the name tho.

microserf · 07/03/2011 14:16

i was just passing, and wanted to say i LOVE this name. dh vetoed it, grr. i think it's fabulous.

Valinor · 07/03/2011 16:46

I really like it. I don't think it's too quirky...everyone has heard of it (even if it's because of the beer or MacCartney). Plus it sounds fine with your sn too.

I slightly prefer Estella as it has more of a vintage feel but then I prefer names like that.

mathanxiety · 07/03/2011 16:51

I love it and it's lovely with your surname. Very dashing.
