they work in fashion so I assume that they think its 'cool'.. but I find it ridiculous, up there with Apple... middle name is persian and doesnt match at all.

what do you say when you need to pretend the baby name is ok?

When this has happened in the past, I have said 'What a cool/unusual name'. Then move the convo on to something else.

Can you not just grit your teeth and pretend to like it? Grin

Indith · 10/01/2011 14:40

Nothing, you just act as though they have told you a name you consider to be "normal", they chose a name for their child, please don't insult it.

southeastastra · 10/01/2011 14:40

boy from outnumbered is tyger maybe that influenced them

bit weird if the child is a bit meek Grin

Bellie · 10/01/2011 14:40

Grin Ooopsadaisy!!

hmmm.... how about - "how unusual, not come across it before, what made you use that name" and then they can tell you the whole story and they will think that as you are interested you like it Wink

pranma · 10/01/2011 14:42

Tiger Drew-Honey child actor in Outnumbered

ILoveMyBrick · 10/01/2011 14:42

I think it's fab, only wish I was brave enough to use it Wink

GwendolineMaryLacey · 10/01/2011 14:42

Damn, Oopsadaisy beat me to it :o

GwendolineMaryLacey · 10/01/2011 14:43

Has she actually signed the forms? Tiger as a name for a person is a bit, well, sexual for me...

snice · 10/01/2011 14:43

ask 'would he like to come to tea?'
They will get so fed up of that joke

Ooopsadaisy · 10/01/2011 14:44

Sorry - my previous message was incredibly unhelpful.

I am in a destructive mood today so please ignore that.

Yes - be polite and smile and buy him a huge hunk of meat and an old tyre as a new baby gift.

shufflebum · 10/01/2011 14:46

There's a 3 year old boy in our village called Tiger, her has a big shaggy mane of blonde hair Grin. Mum recently had DS2 and was toying with the name Bear, thankfully pregnancy hormones disapated and they went with Finlay instead!

Sazisi · 10/01/2011 14:46

I like it :)
I knew a girl called Tiger, really suited her.

4andnotout · 10/01/2011 14:48

I was quite tempted for one of our dd's as coupled with their surname they would have been Tiger Lilley, dp vetoed italong with Walter Grin

mollymawk · 10/01/2011 14:49

It's grrrrrEAT

[sorry]

[but also LOL at snice]

NannyState · 10/01/2011 15:13

Do you have to say anything much?

Do 'the done thing', whether the name is Tiger or John. Smile sweetly and say 'ahhhh...bless. it really suits him'.

Grin
sobloodystupid · 10/01/2011 15:17

If you want to be all highbrow about it clasp your hands to your chest and declaim "Ah of course, William Blake - much underused of course, but the darkness of his poetry is enchanting..."
I, however, like it as a name, Smile

missytequila · 10/01/2011 15:17

yes I know I have to be kind, and of course I will pretend.

but the funny, sarcastic answers are so much fun!

maybe I will buy some stuffed tigers and other assorted jungle toys and see if they get the joke..

no offense to anyone who likes the name, to each their own. but what if the poor boy is skinny and shy....

You'll just get used to it. My DD's lovely little friend has a very er.. unusual name and I'm now surprised when people smirk / spit their tea out / ask me to repeat it when I mention her by name - I just don't think about it any more.

nickelbabyjesus · 10/01/2011 15:23

i've got cutre stuffed baby tigers in the shop!
Grin

they're so very cute - here look, halfway down the page on the right

LimburgseVlaai · 10/01/2011 15:26
