Why is it everywhere I go, someone is shouting one of these names at their child?

It's an American thing - doesn't Britney have a Jayden?

We have a Brayden round our way too...

These names sound really horrid in a Sheffield accent.

"Jaaaaaaaaayden, ger'ere."

"Kaaaaaaaaayden, sit daaaahn."

I know a Jaydon, a Kaden, a Layton, a Mason, a Carter, a Destinee-Starr, five male and female Tylers, a Harley, two Skyes, a Harrison, two Summers ....... I could go on.

baiscally, round here, you have to 'set' your face before you ask the new baby's name so you don't grimace and guffaw "But that's fucking ridiculous! You might as well have called him Norman Stanley Fletcher!"

I've never heard anyone calling out Jayden or Kayden. Maybe if you've noticed them once, then you notice them more?

I don't want to stereotype horribly, but when I used to teach/organise classes in the vol-com sector I did a lot of work on the council estates and... well, that was where I heard those names most of the time.... sorry (cringes)...

That's strange UQD, I think the Sheffield accent makes those names sound better!

I have never heard any of these names used round here (West London). Charlie, Harry, Felix, Sophie, Charlotte, etc. are all v common. There are 5 children under 2 on our street, Caspar, Bear, India, Ella and Mia.

I would say that was a stereotype UQD a bit like all the oh so trendy old man/lady names in semi detached land

It would be hard to say I had been anywhere different or heard any different though as that would be... a lie.

I have NEVER come across a Jayden or Kayden, and we're in Surrey. I don't particularly like the names, but he mums of Jaydan/Kayden may well not like my choice of names either.

I know a Riley, an Oscar and a Mia but non of the others.

I think Britney calls her Jayden 'JJ'.

One Kayden and two Kaylans at our school. All completely delightful and from lovely families.

Muminthemiddle - Bear is indeed the name of my neighbour's lovely son, and it really suits him. According to the name stats, there were 6 Bears born in 2009.

muminthemiddle, I know of all the hyphenated names, but please tell me people aren't using underscores now??
