Twin girls - Holly & Ivy

Notyetamummy · 27/10/2010 14:42

My friend is expecting twin girls. They are due on Christmas day.

She wants to name them:

Holly Grace

&

Ivy Rose

Grace & Rose are the names of her two grandmothers.

What does everyone think?

Individually I like the names, but for twin girls Hmm

they are going to get SO sick of that song, aren't they?!

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 27/10/2010 14:43

No

GreenStinkingStumpSleeves · 27/10/2010 14:43

lovely I think!

but then I am a bit whimsical

they aren't silly names

FullaDoll · 27/10/2010 15:20

Oddly enough, I quite like them! But then I love Christmas.

Tortington · 27/10/2010 15:23

contrived unfortunately as separately they are nice. Prefer Iris to Ivy.

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 27/10/2010 16:47

Oh NOOOOOOOO!

no, and again no.

Have a word with your friend, those poor girls!

Also means they have to kind of always go together. Of course they are twins, so they are a pair, but they also need individual identity. They will forever be "The H & the I".. relentless tedious jokes will go on and on, people won't let it drop and they need to be able to stand alone, in name as well as in person.

Seriously not a good idea!

geekygiraffe · 27/10/2010 17:40

Please, no.

EauRouge · 27/10/2010 17:53

Sounds like the kind of thing people would name a pair of kittens or goldfish.

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 18:10

No too cutesy.

I would swap at least one of the names around. Grace Holly and Rose Ivy perhaps?

Or something less obviously christmas-ie.

Rosemary Christmas and Graciela Noelle

ThatDamnDog · 27/10/2010 18:11

Noooooooo [long tunnel]

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 18:11

although if they are twins, and her DD is 25/12 she will be doing very well to get to the 4th of December. Maybe she will feel less Christmassy than she expects too.

5DollarShake · 27/10/2010 18:32

She does realise she's giving birth to humans, and not cabbage patch dolls, right...? Hmm

If she absolutely must, then middle names as Valium says.

Notyetamummy · 27/10/2010 19:14

I agree with you all here.

The problem is that the dad is not in the picture to veto names and I'm the only person she's told.

I was going to suggest changing them to Grace Holly & Rose Ivy, but am worried that she'll be really offended.

Apparently she's been searching for the perfect names "forever".

I pointed out that she's v. unlikely to actually have them on Christmas day but she said that either way it would be christmas season.

My twin girls were due just before Christmas too, and I kept well clear of any 'christmassy' names and deliberately chose names that were very different from eachother. I haven't regretted it!

spidookly · 27/10/2010 19:21

NO

If they were boys would she call them Santa and Rudolf?

Because this is just as stupid.

Absolutely hate 'matching' twin names - they are individuals - name them as such!

metromum · 27/10/2010 23:43

It would be a bit of a brave choice.

I think Holly is gorgeous, am personally not keen on Ivy. I would prefer Holly and Natasha - still Christmassy but not quite so naff.

MaMoTTaT · 27/10/2010 23:45

first thoughts? it's a bit twee

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 27/10/2010 23:45

Grace and Rose YES

Holly and Ivy NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

NothereisnobodylurkingbehindU · 28/10/2010 00:02

I actually think it's quite cute Blush They are nice names - Ivy especially.

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 28/10/2010 00:11

Individually nice names, no problem, for twins due at xmas ???? "up all night thinking of those names" springs to mind!

mathanxiety · 28/10/2010 03:32

Holly and Natalie?
Holly and Noelle?

(Ivy is nice but there are nicer Christmassy names that wouldn't invite the obvious joke)
