Twin girls - Holly & Ivy

Notyetamummy · 27/10/2010 14:42

My friend is expecting twin girls. They are due on Christmas day.

She wants to name them:

Holly Grace

&

Ivy Rose

Grace & Rose are the names of her two grandmothers.

What does everyone think?

Individually I like the names, but for twin girls Hmm

I have twins. And noooo...I don't think she should. Has she read all the books about twins needing to be individuals? I think alliteration can work (though I didn't do it). Get her to read some twin literature and she will change her mind. The grandmother thing is lovely - she should just call them those names and forget the Holly and Ivy and bit.

sparkleshine · 31/10/2010 16:01

What did your friend say? Is she still going with the names?

Notyetamummy · 31/10/2010 18:38

Well...

First she burst out crying and I felt awful Sad

I comforted her and when she'd had a cuppa and calmed down she said that it was just pregnancy hormones and that she was OK.

She says she's trying to change her mind but just loves this combo so much. However she also liked the suggestion of Noelle. I vy is her favourite out of the two so it may be:

Ivy Rose

&

Noelle Grace

Which I think are lovely.

Wouldn't be so bad if she introduces them as Ivy and Holly but others may not do this.

EightiesChick · 31/10/2010 22:53

Seriously? No way. Make them the middle names as has been suggested.

noeyedear · 01/11/2010 11:30

I think Ivy and Noelle are fine, and not as much of a 'pair'.

Poledra · 01/11/2010 11:43

Coming a bit late to this, but feel, as a twin with a nearly-Christmas birthday, I have a Right to Comment.

I would have been devastated to have 'matching' names like that - I was absolutely desperate to have a separate identity from my twin (and my twin's a brother!) such that I did not apply to the same universities as him as I wanted to Get Away from being one of The Twins. We do not have Christmassy names, btw.

Ivy Rose and Noelle Grace are lovely names. I wish her the very best of luck with her twins, and well done on taking this thread so well. Shall we see her on here soon? Smile

Holly and Ivy are great names

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 26/09/2014 14:17

This is a four year old threadConfused

squoosh · 26/09/2014 14:43

Noelle is absolutely hideous.

squoosh · 26/09/2014 14:43

Dammit, I never check the dates!

Noelle is still hideous though.

Ticklemonster897 · 27/09/2014 09:26

Ivy is nice and granny chic but holly is a bit too 1990's. Noelle is ok.

Ivy and Mary (great Xmas themed names that sit well together)

Ivy and Stella (also Xmas themed as Stella means star and the wise men followed a star to Bethlehem)

Other suggestions

Ivy and Nell
Ivy and Nancy
Ivy and Maude
Ivy and Betsy
Ivy and Elsie

Gemerama82 · 27/09/2014 09:35

I wonder what she did call them. They'll be nearly 4 by now!

...Starts dreaming of twin baby girls...Think I'd stick with my 2 faves regardless of the time of year, so Elodie and Clara.

MyballsareSandy · 27/09/2014 09:43

Oh dear, just no.

Although not as bad as a colleague who named her twins Jack and Danny!

Gemerama82 · 27/09/2014 09:47

Took me a while to work that one out Sandy. But oh dear!

How about captain and Morgan or piper and heidsieck?

Clash1001 · 27/09/2014 09:49

Oh great, now I really need to know what the four year old twins are called.

Any chance OP is still around?

Gemerama82 · 27/09/2014 09:52

Me too! I want to know.

Castlemilk · 27/09/2014 10:53

Oh goodness I hope one of them didn't get Noelle.

I can't think of a more hideous name.

UriGeller · 27/09/2014 10:56

I like it. And as soon as the names are said in a different order "Ivy and Holly" all the usual associations disappear

Branleuse · 27/09/2014 11:06

Shes been searching for the perfect names forever. Dont piss on her fire.

Theres nothing wrong with those names. Butt out

Branleuse · 27/09/2014 11:06

oh man, zombie thread

MummyAngharad · 29/09/2014 00:40

I think it sounds too much paired up, I like all of the names individually but not as twins, it gives them no identity.
I love Holly and it is quite popular anyway so won't be too associated with Christmas but I think Ivy could be switched out for something nicer and less obvious.
If she must have the two names I think the best options are
Holly Grace and Rose Ivy or maybe Evelyn Rose which has a similar feel.

not so cute at 35 years old is it

By the time they are anywhere near that age, they will be working at different places probably living in different towns. Don't schools normally split twins after reception anyway. I don't think it's a big issue myself
