Twin girls - Holly & Ivy

Notyetamummy · 27/10/2010 14:42

My friend is expecting twin girls. They are due on Christmas day.

She wants to name them:

Holly Grace

&

Ivy Rose

Grace & Rose are the names of her two grandmothers.

What does everyone think?

Individually I like the names, but for twin girls Hmm

Yes as others have said, please point out to her that the song says "of all the trees that are in the wood the Holly bears the throne" so Ivy will always feel like Holly is the favourite!

They are pretty names individually but not together! Holly and Noelle sounds lovely!

Queenofthehill · 28/10/2010 20:49

I'm an Ivy. Yay for Ivys! My primary-school nemesis was a Holly. Boo to Hollys! Just kidding about the boo btw Wink

Mitchymum · 28/10/2010 21:43

If she must use Christmas names, I would go for Holly and Robyn.

poorbuthappy · 28/10/2010 21:48

When I was booked in for my section with my girl/girl twins for the 16th December, we had a week of the Holly and Ivy joke...the first time we talked about it I seem to recall I wet myself a little bit cos I laughed too hard...[hblush]

Ah well...could be a lot worse!

ZOMBIEEEESywriter · 28/10/2010 21:50

Only 17? Well I shall hold back on the rant I'd originally planned to write.

I've got twins and believe me, I don't think they'll thank her for it.

SixtyFootGhooool · 28/10/2010 21:53

Good job she's not having boys.
Cliff and Richard?!

BuntyPenfold and SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood yes really called Peace Love and Love Love. I couldn't quite believe it myself.

trumpton · 29/10/2010 08:35

I am a Christmas day baby and my parents resisted the temptation to call me anything Christmasy . Thank you Ma and Pa x

kreecherlivesupstairs · 29/10/2010 08:52

Donner and Blitzen get my vote.
I went to school with a boy/girl twin combo born on 25/12. She was Christmas and he was Rudolph.

Faaamily · 29/10/2010 08:57

I quite like the names Grin

ivykaty44 · 29/10/2010 09:00

Ivy is a fab name, but Ivy and Holly is a bit twee

BikeRunScream · 29/10/2010 09:03

How about swapping the first and middle names around? Othewise twee, twee, twee and contrived.

HSMM · 29/10/2010 09:25

My sister was born in December - Nicola (St Nicholas) Carole (Christmas carols).

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 29/10/2010 09:33

I was witnesses to twins tearing shreds off each other in my kitchen last week, well one was, the other totally crushed by her sister. They were born 2 days after Christmas. I think matching names like that woulfmd just about finish the less confident twin off in her struggle for her own identity. I know that it's probably quote an unusual situation but they don't stay cute and little for ever.

mrsunreasonable · 29/10/2010 19:02

No No No No No!

Notyetamummy · 29/10/2010 19:47

I don't know if I'm being a good or bad friend here, but I'm seeing her tomorrow and I'm going to show her this thread.

Like the idea, but she will regret it when her daughters are teased ALL THE TIME.

Highlandgirl · 29/10/2010 19:55

What about Robyn / Robin..and Holly??

Still quite Christmas based but not as full on.

Highlandgirl · 29/10/2010 19:55

Should of said....Ivy is a great name.

But Holly and Ivy is just mean....!!!

pooka · 29/10/2010 19:57

I think that since the names tie in so fundamentally to the song she should actually listen to the words, as others have suggested..

"of all the trees that are In the wood the holly bears the crown.".

Poor ivy-twin.

HeadFairy · 29/10/2010 20:00

dd was due on Christmas day and I was warned off Christmassy names.. she was born on New Years Eve in the end and there were loads of Eve/Evie/Evas born on the ward that day too. I'm very glad I avoided all that malarky!

No, no, no and no again! They are lovely names on their own, but choosing christmas themed names for a set of twins is just plain wrong! I'd go with the intended middle names -Grace and Rose both lovely, and neither would feel inferior! Good luck to your friend! x

Yummygummybear · 31/10/2010 08:29

If she introduces them as Ivy & Holly instead of Holly & Ivy then lots of people won't even think of the song.

Cute names
