mathanxiety · 19/10/2010 19:28

I love Hugo, Felix and Maximilian -- your names are all nice though.

minipie · 19/10/2010 19:46

I'd go for

Charles (Charlie)
Felix
Maximilian (Max)
Arthur (Art or Artie)
Frederick (Fred)
Edward

George and Hugo are fine but prefer the others.

Would avoid

Marmaduke
Magnus
Caspar

Why not wait and see what he looks like?

discobeaver · 19/10/2010 19:52

I like Arabella, very elegant name.

Hugo, definitely! It's a great name - simple, masculine, goes with any age, lots of great nn potential, not very common but not weird.

Only call him Marmaduke if you want him to get teased to buggery at school.

rubyslippers · 19/10/2010 19:53

Caspar is a great name

discobeaver · 19/10/2010 19:53

For a ghost..

rubyslippers · 19/10/2010 19:56

I know ... I do rather like it though

discobeaver · 19/10/2010 20:00

So do I, but the connection always puts me off. Not that I have boys anyway.

CharlieBoo · 19/10/2010 20:06

Hugo - like it
Charles - hate Charles but love Charlie, but quite popular for babies where I live.
Marmaduke - shockingly bad
Felix - mmmmm, indifferent
Caspar - friendly ghost as others have said
Maximilian - like it
Arthur - too wannabe
George - like it, but also popular
Frederick - gorgeous, my friend has a 7 year old Freddie and it soo suits him.
Edward - Like Eddie
Magnus - Magnuson

discobeaver · 19/10/2010 20:11

If you decide Magnus, half way through labour you have to say "I've started so I'll finish"

girliefriend · 19/10/2010 20:13

like
charles (charlie)
arthur
george
freddie

def don't like all the others!!!

Also like but not on the list Albert (Albie) heard a little boy called this recently and thought it sounded really cute!!!

MadameCastafiore · 19/10/2010 20:14

Arthur - Nice
George - Fab name love it.
Frederick - Not keen

poppydaisy · 19/10/2010 21:57

My brother has an Arabella & Quentin. Of your suggestions I like Arthur and Magnus.

Flossiebelle · 19/10/2010 22:25

I love the name Arabella.

Also love Felix, Caspar, Arthur and Edward

hobbgoblin · 19/10/2010 22:30

I have a Felix and a Maxim. Although we don't shorten his name, Maxim is shortened to Max and there's a good few of those around! I also like Henry and have this as one of their middle names.

My favourite names of friends' children are Digby and ALbert/Bertie

cece · 19/10/2010 22:31

Edward or Hugo

smother · 19/10/2010 22:37

Hugo - really dislike, sooo posh* and reminds me of hugh (as in large, not the name)
Charles - ok, like nn Charlie too
Marmaduke - nope unless you're naming your cat!
Felix - ok, even though it's also a cat's name, I like it.
Caspar - no
Maximilian - really no
Arthur - like this a lot
George - and like this too, probably my fav on your list
Frederick - ok, but Freddie is everywhere
Edward - like but prefer Edwin
Magnus - nope

  • guessing you may be a bit posh by the name Arabella, which is lovely by the way! esp like nn Bella.

I'd ignore my feedback if I were you, we obviously have quite different tastes in names!

piscesmoon · 19/10/2010 22:44

Edward or George

BearBear1981 · 20/10/2010 11:16

Ha ha, love all the comments. Hilarious how no one likes Marmaduke!!! I'm not a huge fan of it but DH loves it!!

As for posh and Hugo... you can tell from my names list that I went to boarding school as will our children.

Love the Albert (Albie) suggestion and Maxim!!

I totally forgot about Caspar the friendly ghost, not ideal!

And it will be 4 days as I am having a c-section as I'm ill (not diabetes) but too dangerous for me to go through labour. They may put it back to next Tuesday now though so gives me a couple of extra days to choose!!!

Still up for more suggestions if anyone has any along the same vein.

Thanks

Felix - Quite like it, but also thought of the cat
Caspar - Also thought of the ghost.

Maximilian - prefer Max
Arthur - love it
George - quite nice
Frederick - quite nice, like Freddie
Edward - OKish
