Found 'the one' - and it's not Beauden [grin]

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days of constant name games, me and dh are sorted. Thanks to everyone's help we have decided not to go with Beauden after the BAD reaction on here. Or Indigo or Lyric or Soren. Lots of you still will hate our choices but I think you know when you have decided because you don't care less anymore what others think (in a nice way).

Soooo. our final choices are:

Girl: Sonnet Melody
Boy: Winter Beau Alexander.

See, I still have my Beau in there Grin.

I think these fit in really well with our other dc. The only big problem is that we have an Autumn so it may well sound contrived. But they aren't going to be joined at the hip and will have their own identities.

One last favour!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice third name to go with Sonnet Melody? (Our other three have all got two middle names so I want to do the same).

Was thinking perhaps:

Sonnet Melody Grace
Sonnet Melody Eve
Sonnet Melody Erin

Want a classic name she can fall back on if she hates her other two names.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I think I can almost leave these boards in peace now Grin

Pippin? Seeker, aren't we trying to avoid the poor child being bullied over his name?

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:01

I do like Pip,but Pippin just makes me think of The Lord of The Rings.

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:02

Though I admit it's an improvement on Winter.

seeker · 03/10/2010 13:03

This is damage limitation - you did see that she's thinking abotu Mystery, didn't you??????

FellatioNelson · 03/10/2010 13:03

I don't exactly dislike Autumn or Winter but having them together is a REALLLLLYYYY bad idea. Please think again. People really will laugh in your face and whisper 'oh dear, poor kids - bonkers parents' when you introduce them as Autumn and Winter.

Sonnet is okay-ish, but I prefer Sorrel or Linnet.

FellatioNelson · 03/10/2010 13:04

Pippin is a rabbit's name surely?

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:04

Seriously?Shock Pippin is a marvellous name. An excellent choice. Go with that.

arizonagirl · 03/10/2010 13:10

Hey, hold on.... where did flippin' Pippin come in to the equation? Grin.

Pippin used to be a funny rabbit with huge ears and huge teeth and a ridiculous voice that used to appeal to me when I was little.

Don't worry, seeker...Mystery was a joke (although I did think Jimmi Mistri had a cool name last night on strictly come dancing).

But now I want comments on Snowden - good or bad. Really liking it. Surely you lot are going to be able to endure one of the names we come up with. Btw, dh doesn't like Russett - and now that someone has mentioned an association with 'granny smith'.....

So... Logan, Autumn, Ocean and......Snowden.

Refocus girls.

I agree with the poster who said people will drop the T on Sonnet. Try out the name in the worst local accent you can muster, because unless you are Samantha Cameron that is how it will inevitably get pronounced. If it sounds cack, bin it.

You can't mangle Sorrel with any glottal stops.Wink

FellatioNelson · 03/10/2010 13:13

And for what it's worth when I first came on this thread I thought the Beauden in the title was an ironic MN joke. Good call to ditch it - really.

What about something fantastically romantic and OTT for a boy like Willoughby or Valentine?

SoupDragon · 03/10/2010 13:13

Winter is definitely a girly name and wrong for an autumn born boy with a sibling called Autumn.

Rowan, Alder, Ash (although Asher is better) are trees
which work as names.

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:14

We're onto Snowden now.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2010 13:15

Snowden sounds too much Iike Logan.

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:17

Snowden is awful. It's also a type of potato which is used to make crisps. Very common in Canada apparently.

And it doesn't go with Logan and Ocean, too many 'oh' sounds, and Autum will be wondering why she didn't get an 'oh' name.

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 13:18

Autumn even.

grumpypants · 03/10/2010 13:20

Fall? Leaf? Hal (Halloween)? Sonnet is way too much like Snot to allow the child access to other children. Ocean, Autumn, and ? (Like Autumn, would have like Winter if he was a Winter baby). What about the day of the week he is born? I would have easily had a Friday, Tuesday, or Sunday amongst my lot and their unusual names.

FellatioNelson · 03/10/2010 13:20

Rowan or Rohan is nice. Eden? Bay? (Similar to Beau)

Snowden not keen. Are you stuck on a winter theme by any chance?

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 03/10/2010 13:33

Don't like Snowden at all.

Heath would work

cloudydays · 03/10/2010 13:37

arizonagirl, I just love your total lack of defensiveness and sense of humor about all this :) I'd bet you're a fun and easygoing Mom.

I think Snowden is certainly an improvement on Winter (not in general, but in the context of having big sis Autumn). I'd be lying if I said I loved it, but if you give a traditional middle name that might be fair enough.

Someone earlier (sorry I can't remember who) suggested Bodhi - I'm surprised that didn't resonate with you, since it has a nature (and winter) connotation and a very similar sound to Beauden (I think it's pronounced Beau-dee?).

Looking at your kids' names (and trying to remember birth order from previous threads), they seem to be getting progressively wackier! Nature thing aside, both Logan and Autumn are actually very recognizable names in popular usage (maybe more unusual in UK than US - can't remember where you're based). There won't be four others in their classes but they also won't provoke "How unusual!" as a first response. Ocean will always be hearing "how unusual!" but her name is a very familiar word to everyone and nobody's going to ask how to spell it or what it means.

I guess I'm just saying that while you do have a nature theme, the need for complete unusualness seems to be a more recent thing? Your littlest one (Sonnet or Snowden) might end up envious of his/her siblings who have names that are not top 100 but also not unheard of? I can't see Logan or Autumn ever having to start using a middle name in order to be taken seriously as adults.

arsesandoldlace · 03/10/2010 13:39

I like Snowden MUCH more than Winter. Unusual, cute nn potential and it'll be pronounced the same wherever in the world you live.

Aitch · 03/10/2010 13:42

snowden is also hideous... for goodness sakes i feel for this child.

hal is absolutely LUSH imo. logan, autumn, ocean and hal sounds really nice.

expatinscotland · 03/10/2010 14:02

Why not just name is Hash and be done with it?

Aitch · 03/10/2010 14:26

or Stoner?

Faaamily · 03/10/2010 14:28

Was Beauden really an option? Pa ha ha ha

5DollarShake · 03/10/2010 14:39

Even I can get on board with Snowden if it's instead of Winter. Grin

Wouldn't use it myself in a month of Sundays, but it's a vast improvement over Winter-as-a-brother-for-Autumn.
