Found 'the one' - and it's not Beauden [grin]

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days of constant name games, me and dh are sorted. Thanks to everyone's help we have decided not to go with Beauden after the BAD reaction on here. Or Indigo or Lyric or Soren. Lots of you still will hate our choices but I think you know when you have decided because you don't care less anymore what others think (in a nice way).

Soooo. our final choices are:

Girl: Sonnet Melody
Boy: Winter Beau Alexander.

See, I still have my Beau in there Grin.

I think these fit in really well with our other dc. The only big problem is that we have an Autumn so it may well sound contrived. But they aren't going to be joined at the hip and will have their own identities.

One last favour!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice third name to go with Sonnet Melody? (Our other three have all got two middle names so I want to do the same).

Was thinking perhaps:

Sonnet Melody Grace
Sonnet Melody Eve
Sonnet Melody Erin

Want a classic name she can fall back on if she hates her other two names.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I think I can almost leave these boards in peace now Grin

Hi again, Alexander wouldn't fit in with the other names which are all connected with nature and very unusual (Autumn and Ocean). Like Melody but hate Mel which she would almost certainly become. Quite like the suggestion of October (due in October)- but think we are decided now.

Not sure why Winter would be cruel - lots of winters out there who love their names (been googling). Wynne ia a made up name that would be ok for a nn but not a first name.

Sorry, I like our choices. But as usual it is good to hear your views Grin

And who knows, I may wake up tomorrow and choose the earlier of suggestions of Thomas and James.

Am actually with the others on Winter re nickname and potential for Winnie - but you could choose something else like Thorn, Snow, Ice, Spruce, Hiver, if you want to go with the Winter theme.

Sonnet Melody Anne
Sonnet Melody Eleanor
Sonnet Melody Fleur
Sonnet Melody Moonlight

just a few ideas.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/10/2010 01:23

Arizonagirl, I have no objection to Winter as such, it's just with a sibling called Autumn it sounds ridiculous.

arizonagirl · 03/10/2010 01:41

thumbwitch - thanks for your constructive post. Still prefer Winter but appreciate your time.

Would you consider Winn instead of WinTER?

MadAboutQuavers · 03/10/2010 03:41

Whilst I'm afraid I agree with everyone above, I recognise you came here for an opinion on a third name

Go for Grace, IMO

cloudydays · 03/10/2010 04:18

Hi there,

I didn't really get why you got such a hard time about Beauden. The association with the store pronounced the same way was, I thought, a silly hang-up that a lot of people posting seemed to have about it. It's not a name I'd choose but neither would I think anything other than "that's different and kind of nice" if introduced to someone with the name.

Now I wish I'd written that on the Beauden thread because I feel compelled to tell you (because you seem genuinely interested in feedback, even though you're pretty much decided now) that I wish you wouldn't go with Winter. I really like your other kids' names, which you posted on a thread a month or so ago, but aside from what others have said about Winter for a boy, there's one thing that I hope you would think about:

Don't you think that Autumn might feel her own name is a bit less special if there's another 'season' in the family? I mean, you obviously choose your kids' names so that they'll stand out, but in this case (even if it's not your intention) you've kind of matched two of them together and made them less individual by doing so. I think you said in the previous thread that "Lake" (or was it "River"?) wasn't an option because you already had "Ocean".

Isn't this the same thing, but worse?

And besides, he's being born in the Autumn - kind of seems like his season was already taken so you're pushing him out to the next one!

I mean all of this well, honestly. Just wondering why you see two seasons as a better option than two bodies of water.

Re: second middle name for a girl, I like Grace the best.

mathanxiety · 03/10/2010 04:57

I like Erin best for the girl's mn.

I like Winter BUT not with an Autumn already and not for a boy (double whammy). Winter conjures up for me an image of someone who could also be called Nina -- willowy, artistic, a ballet dancing kind of girl.

Would you consider
Dmitri? (as in Demeter of Greek legend although she was a woman)
Denali? (Alaskan National Park in the US, makes me think of winter even on the 4th of July)
Bodhi? (December date; Buddhist Day of Enlightenment)
Rory? (refers to the colour red, good for Autumn leaves or winter colour of berries, robins' breasts)
Abner?
Kiran?
-- both mean 'light' which is a recurring theme of the Winter season.
Sadeh? (Iranian holiday to defeat the darkness)

seeker · 03/10/2010 05:19

Rowan
Storm
Ash

You really can't have a Winter and an Autumn. Not fair to either of them - or to the one who isn't named after a season. It'll be the only think people will talk about wne they first meet.

You've already said you can't have River because it's too close to Ocean, and you can't have Alexander because it doesn't go with the other two. Apply the same logic to Winter and go with something else.

5DollarShake · 03/10/2010 05:31

Well done Cloudydays - playing on the fact that calling a child Winter when you have an Autumn lacks originality. Not being original or creative or special is probably the only thing that will get through to the OP!

I mean this in the nicest, most constructive way - originality is all well and good, but it does you (generic) good to also have a sense of empathy, especially when it comes to your own children.

I do think it is really quite self-indulgent to put your need to name uniquely over your child's need to be completely mocked.

No-one is saying you need to chose James or Thomas. Just a reasonable middle ground. :)

5DollarShake · 03/10/2010 05:33

Er, not to be completely mocked.

pebblejones · 03/10/2010 07:27

What about Storm Alexander Beau and Sonnet Melody Grace?
I don't have a huge problem with Winter as such; but to have two children called Autumn and Winter I find a tiny bit silly. I would also assume Winter was a girls name,

PfftTheMagicDragon · 03/10/2010 07:50

To just keep to the topic of your names, I would say that Winter Alexander Beau flows in a much better way than Winter Beau Alexander.

lola0109 · 03/10/2010 07:51

I still prefer boden! :)

i also liked soren. And i also like sonnet for a boy.

But to answer your question i like erin erin from your choice but what about elizabeth.

What about lochlan for a boy?

Clary · 03/10/2010 09:44

Yes wot Seeker said.

"What are your children called?" Oh, they are Ocean, Autumn and Storm."

Suounds a lot better than "Oh, they are Ocean, Autumn and Winter."
Doesn't it?

DanceInTheDark · 03/10/2010 09:57

You absolutely cannot call this child Winter if you already have an Autumn. Apart from anything else, if you have another child you have to call it Summer or Spring because it will forever wonder why it doesn't have the same kind of name as its siblings!

I like Beau Alexander though.

SOrry to say that i absolutely HATE your girls name too. (really sorry)

Melody is nice but not sonnet please!

Melody Fleur is nice.

SnailWhaleTail · 03/10/2010 10:07

Ooooo, I like the idea of introducing Ocean, Autumn and Storm (or maybe Rowen).

CuppaTeaJanice · 03/10/2010 10:13

There's Logan as well, so Ocean won't be the odd one out.

But I do agree that Autumn and Winter are a bit 'themed'. You did discount Summer for a girl a few months ago for this reason.

Faaamily · 03/10/2010 10:14

Sonnet? pa ha ha ha ha. Um, yeh, Sonnet Grace. Um, yeh.

pa ha ha ha

rachel234 · 03/10/2010 11:00

To answer your question, I prefer

Sonnet Melody Grace

Regarding your boys' names, I like Winter as a name (with nickname Wynn), but agree that together with Autumn might be a bit much.
What about Rowan or Storm?

My friend is planning to call his DS "Cedar"

It think it's awful
But it's better than Winter when you've already got an Autumn

And it stays with your nature type theme

thebrightside · 03/10/2010 11:22

You can not call your son Winter if you already have an Autumn.
However much you might like it, you're going to turn their lives in to an anecdote. Everyone who meets them will want to tell people that they've just met a family with "Autumn and Winter." This will probably be accompanied by laughter.
I like your girl's name. Surely you can come up with a better one if he's a he. Beau Alexander are nice middle names.

FingonTheValiant · 03/10/2010 11:26

Why would you call a baby Winter when he's due in October? Confused he'll spend the rest of his life with people assuming he's a winter baby, and then doing this Hmm when he says he's not.
