I knew a Tayo who was a girl too. Mind you Tayo was her nn for her full name of Omotayo. I beleive she was of African origin.

So to me Tayo will always be a girls name!

But Shirly, putting it in the crossword is what is important to them.

I'm not denying that it's naff as fuck, but it is how they do things in their family. If you grow up in a family where tattoo crosswords of everyone's names are something special then the children will think it's a cool thing, and being left out of it would be really hard.

You've got a crossword tattoo on your chest haven't you Yuno?

Come on, you can tell me...

Grin

(I had some wine last night and it made me be RUDE to you and that is NOT ON as I love you really, sorry)

Matteo, I like that, and it could be shortened. But, just for the sake of general interest, Tayto are also available in Northern Ireland but made by a completely different company to the Republic of Ireland. The cheese and onion are a completely different flavour.

PaulineCampbellJones · 30/09/2010 12:53

I have been to Tayto castle!

PaigeTurner · 30/09/2010 13:15

Tayo is not a made up name, but it is African in origin so I'd not use it unless I had those cultural connections.

stleger · 30/09/2010 13:22

I'd love to do to Tayto Castle... My name has Greek origins, but is very boring indeed. I wonder is it time to reintroduce names from other cultures, there are loads of Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Norman names used in the English speaking world, and many people seem to want to use Irish and Scottish names now.

ChynaDoll2006 · 30/09/2010 23:19

It's generally a Nigerian/west african name short for Adetayo or some other variation. Pronounced Tie-oh.

I suppose you should find out what it means before you decide one way or the other.

I don't think the tattoo thing is that ridiculous. If you had a name you LOVED and you rejected it because of that, then that would be stupid. But if you have no ideas to begin with it doesn't seem too bad to me. Too working class for you lot eh Hmm

pinkthechaffinch · 01/10/2010 10:40

I used to know a W African lad by name of Tao (no Y in this instance).

Tayo-though-don't like-agree with other posters about Irish crisps.
