Aussie and NZ Mumsnetters

Welcome to Aussie & NZ Mumsnetters - discuss all aspects of parenting life in Australia and New Zealand, including relocating, schools and local areas.

eenymeenymineymo · 26/04/2023 05:51

Hi everyone, it's me from the shaky Hawkes Bay, NZ today. Good to have a board for us, thanks 🙂
Ps - several strong earthquakes here this morning, & maybe 40 ish aftershocks.

Scalottia · 26/04/2023 05:53

Ooooh thanks for the new board! 🙂

HurricanesPoua · 26/04/2023 05:53

I was at work in Wellington CBD and I was about to get under the desk when the quake hit. Really long and rolling here

Eaglesqueak · 26/04/2023 05:53

Hi everyone. Another Melburnian here. How exciting to have our own board!
Have the quakes caused any damage, eenymeeny? I’m out at the moment and can’t check the news. I hope you’re all ok

SSTID88 · 26/04/2023 05:54

Hello from Sydney. Will star joining in more pats now!

CrikeyPeg · 26/04/2023 05:58

Hey everybody, hello from the Waikato. Thanks to whoever set this up :)

groovergirl · 26/04/2023 06:00

@eenymeenymineymo @HurricanesPoua Blimey, hope you are OK in the shaky isles.

Once again, we've heard the news first on MN.

TerrorAustralis · 26/04/2023 06:07

So pleased to see this board!

Thanks, no damage for us here fortunately but I have heard of TVs & furniture tipping over in houses a bit closer to the epicentre of the quake. Just horrible though when its such an out of control event.

UnadulteratedCat · 26/04/2023 06:15

Hello all. I’m in Adelaide 👋👋👋

rugbychick1 · 26/04/2023 06:23

I'm in! Dual national living in the UK. Not long back from a visit back to Australia. Very sad still

AlisonDonut · 26/04/2023 06:27

Bonjour from France.

I watch more Aussie and NZ news than UK news at the moment.

Hope you enjoy your new crib.

Yes it is. Our tiny one here was eerie enough, I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have anything stronger and not know if it’s going to be worse.
i hope furniture is the only casualty.

Hi all!

Since we have NZ included - does that mean we pretend Tassie doesn't exist? Or do we ignore those in WA? (ducks for cover)

I figured we could pretend that NZ was an extra two island states. Like Tassie but bigger and further away.

I guess I am in a happy mood and feeling generous today, so happy to agree to this. ;)

CallItLoneliness · 26/04/2023 07:12

Hi All! So noice to have our own space. Any Kiwis living in Oz affected by the new citizenship announcements? I'm in two minds, mostly because I do not want another bloody passport (Aussie, required for citizens, would make 3)

purpleandpurple · 26/04/2023 07:29

Hello to all and thanks for setting this up 👋

DownUdderer · 26/04/2023 07:30

Hello

Aslanplustwo · 26/04/2023 08:51

Kia ora/G'day from the South Island! How exciting to have our own board - many thanks MN.

SargentSagittarius · 26/04/2023 08:53

Hey @eenymeenymineymo - I’m HB (Napier) born and bred! Will always be home.

And hello to @HurricanesPoua - in Wellington, also.

I WFH on the side of Mt Vic and didn’t feel a thing.

I joke with my BF (who’s also Wgtn-residing, HB born and raised) that I don’t get out of bed for anything under a 6. 😆

Alondra · 26/04/2023 09:27

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Well done! Original Spanish expat, permanent resident in Sydney now, with serious problems whether we go back or stay here forever. My eldest went back to Madrid, and the 2 youngest love their life in Australia too much to go back.

DH and I adore Australia, so looks like we are going to be doing a lot of travelling back and forth.

So happy to see this. I can’t believe how many people seemed to be against it, surely if it is not of interest to you just ignore. I guess they are the same people who pop up talking about the “lack of culture” here any time someone asks about moving to Aus when most have either never even visited or came on a working holiday visa twenty years ago 😁

Who was against it? Was there a vote I missed?

It is pretty great having our own board. I am originally from the UK and have been on Mumsnet since long before I moved to Aus. I get dismissed so often about my questions or circumstances because of where I live that no one in the UK could possibly havant idea what advice to offer. Lol 😂 Hopefully this will help us all out a bit.
