Oh no @InTheNightWeWillWish! How rotten for you Sad I hope you feel better soon! And @StillNiceCardigan too Flowers

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 17/06/2022 10:32

26*C @sophs29? <faints> it’s warm but not hot here luckily, it’s been pouring with rain this morning which my plants need!
That’s a lovely purse! I bet your DM is thrilled with it Smile

StillNiceCardigan · 17/06/2022 13:13

DS did a test and it was positive so I will assume I have it too. I don't feel too bad but am going to abandon working so I can go and sit in the shade in the garden with a very cold drink.

StillNiceCardigan · 17/06/2022 13:15

Its about 29 degrees here so I've got the curtains closed and am working in the dark in my little office. I'm not being very productive!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 17/06/2022 14:05

That little phone bag is so cute @sophs29

It’S similar here @StillNiceCardigan and were sat in the dark too. Our house is old and holds the heat in the summer bloody freezing in winter though. The silver lining is that I can have a new colour in my temperature blanket, when I pick it up at again. Hopefully you don’t have it too bad. DH has only done half days this week as he’s just found it too hard with the brain fog, so sitting in the shade with a cold drink sounds like a sensible option.

Fairislefandango · 17/06/2022 15:14

Very cute phone bag @sophs29 !
So sorry you've got covid, @InTheNightWeWillWish - hope you feel better soon. Weather is cloudy and a bit muggy here, but only about 20°.

So , the spinning wheel... FIL needed to adjust something, and he couldn't get the central pin out which holds the wheel in place, so he pushed a meat skewer in to push it out and somehow the skewer has got stuck in/alongside the pin and he can't pull it out Confused. As I said though, he is a wizard. He will sort it out... I hope!

Patience (that's what I've named my spinning wheel Grin) is now operational! Scotch tension installed, hooks screwed into the new flyer. Very exciting!

Oh wow! Patience is very aptly named and looks amazing @Fairislefandango!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 17/06/2022 20:04

I’ve finished the mammoth hat, finally! Poor DS was so patient, it took me ages to get it done.

No more crochet projects for a while I think, I’m crocheted out Grin

Fairislefandango · 17/06/2022 23:05

That is a magnificent mammoth, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound !

I don't have any fibre to spin yet, but I've enjoyed treadling and so has dd!

Fairislefandango · 18/06/2022 09:02

Right, getting to know my lovely wheel! She's developed a bit of a creak in the treadle, so FIL will sort that.

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - I can't remember what kind of wheel you have... On a scotch tension wheel, is the bobbin supposed to turn as well as the flyer? I think it is, but more slowly than the flyer, right? For some reason my bobbin won't turn at all, however loose I have the tension band Confused.

OP posts:
Fairislefandango · 18/06/2022 09:14

Ignore that! I just tied a leader on and as soon as I had yarn on there, the bobbin went round. D'oh! And we've identified the source of the creak!

I now need to get myself an orifice hook, a lazy kate and a niddy noddy. I love yhe names of spinning equipment! Grin

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 18/06/2022 09:20

Huh, I want to say my bobbin doesn’t turn at all @Fairislefandango, the flyer turns and wraps the spun yarn around it, but now I’m doubting myself… I’ll go run a quick test…

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 18/06/2022 09:27

Nope, I’m wrong, the bobbin does turn, sorry @Fairislefandango… I’ve taken a quick video, don’t know if it’ll help but I’ll send you a link…

Fairislefandango · 18/06/2022 09:41

Thanks! It's all a bit of a learning curve. Grin I think it's also one of those things where however much you read about how it all works and how to set it up and get spinning, you only really learn by tinkering around with your own wheel!

sophs29 · 18/06/2022 10:19

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound that hat is absolutely amazing! Well done you!! Bet your DS is thrilled! Worth the wait!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 18/06/2022 11:14

Thanks @sophs29 He was very pleased with it, luckily or I’d have cried 😂

So, all those fleeces in that barn are looking more appealing now @Fairislefandango 😄

InTheNightWeWillWish · 18/06/2022 15:27

That’s a fantastic hat @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound km glad your DS was happy with it.

Fairislefandango · 18/06/2022 18:18

Glad your ds liked it, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound !

I have spun my first bit of yarn on Patience! It's very rubbish Grin. Too twisted in sone places, not twisted enough in others, and of very uneven thickness! But it's a start!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 18/06/2022 21:46

My first yarn was so bad 😄 I saved it just because and then when I started dyeing I thought I’d throw it in and it came apart in the water 😂

Thanks @InTheNightWeWillWish ! 😊

MerylSqueak · 19/06/2022 08:35

Fab hat @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound

Fairislefandango · 19/06/2022 11:51

That's very reassuring, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound Grin
I've just found out that the Lancs and Lakes guild of weavers, spinners and dyers, serving the whole of Cumbria and Lancashire, is located 5 mins' drive from my house Shock. Could be really useful- I think I'll join!

Ive had my sewing machine out today for the first time in a decade. I had to remind myself how to use it but I have now made a very simple cushion cover. Go me!

Now I'm struggling think of anything I want to sew.. .. I quite fancy a big 18th century style nightgown but it might be beyond me.

MerylSqueak · 19/06/2022 16:04

Wow! Sewing patterns are expensive!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 19/06/2022 16:49

Oh do @Fairislefandango! The guild meetings I’ve been to have been really interesting and a good laugh too. Plus every other year they run residential courses in the summer which sound brilliant!

That would be amazing @MerylSqueak! how much are sewing patterns? I haven’t bought one since before the kids were born! Now we need photos 😀
