Drum roll please..... I had enough cream yarn for square 4! Hurray! With about 30cm to spare😀

I have noticed that one of the squares has worked up a bit smaller than the others. I could add another round, but then the stitch count will be different, which will make joining messier and harder (I think).

Would blocking it help? Should I block all the squares anyway? Or should I just press on and join them all and hang the consequences??

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 05/12/2022 09:11

Or should I frog it and do it again on a bigger hook? Weird that it's just that one colour!

MerylSqueak · 05/12/2022 20:28

I think I would try and block it to the same size @QuantumWeatherButterfly although I am a knitter not a crocheter.

What do you think of my little sheep? My secret Santa person changed from a sophisticated young woman to one of our teens. She has sheep at home so I thought I would make some free decorations.

Cute sheep @MerylSqueak

sophs29 · 05/12/2022 22:45

@QuantumWeatherButterfly I'd also try blocking it if it wasn't too much different! But I have never blocked anything I've made 😬😂

@MerylSqueak that is absolutely adorable!

Fairislefandango · 08/12/2022 11:44

Hello everybody. I'm wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa with the lurgy, having called in sick. Dosed up and already feeling a little better. Definitely time for some knitting. Just got to try not to drop stitches when I have a coughing fit!

I'd like to join in with the chorus of sock enablers Grin. I've only knitted them, not crocheted though. I resisted for ages because I thought they looked scary, but once made one pair I couldn't stop!

VittysCardigan · 08/12/2022 11:55

Hope you feel better soon @Fairislefandango The lurgy is doing the rounds here but i have avoided it so far.

Fairislefandango · 09/12/2022 09:56

Thank you. I was so feeble yesterday that I didn't even manage to get any knitting done! Still off today due to the hackjng cough and almost non-existent voice, but feeling a bit more human!

I've completely failed to even atteto knit or crochet anything Christmassy this year. Maybe that's better than starting something and failing to do it in time though Grin At least I recognised my limitations!

Can I join you please? I used to be a prolific knitter, but somehow lost my motivation a few years ago. A case of too many hobbies and not enough time to do them all, I think.

I was talking to a colleague a few days ago, who’s just discovered knitting and was reminded of how much I used to love it. So, I’ve dug out my needles and cast on a pair of fingerless mitts. I found a few half finished socks too, so may move onto those if I manage to finish these mitts before my enthusiasm runs out.

I have a question....if this is an “anything woolly” thread can I post some of my needle felting? I started that a few weeks ago and the results so far are perhaps best described as “interesting”. It’s fun though and I live in hope of improving at some point 😂

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/12/2022 13:05

Welcome, @CrimsonAlligator! I have never heard of needle felting, I am really curious to see it, so please post away!

Fingerless mitts are high on my To Do list (albeit crochet in my case - my brain doesn't understand knitting, no matter how hard I try!), yours look lovely - that's such a nice colour.

My cocoon cardigan has cuffs! Much to my surprise, they actually look half decent. Tose of you who encouraged me with cries of 'front and back post crochet isn't that hard' - I bow to your superior wisdom, as ever, it was fine😀

Only the ribbing around the edge to go now. Though it's 246 stitches per round, so not sure whether 'only' is really the right word!

Fairislefandango · 09/12/2022 13:43

Welcome, @CrimsonAlligator ! Yes definitely post about your needle felting! Posting about intriguing new crafts and enabling us all to continue exceeding the number of hobbies we can readonably fit into our lives is a regular occurrence on these threads Grin. See also weaving, spinning, nalbinding. I'm familiar with needle felting but haven't ever tried it... yet...

Hope you're feeling better very soon @Fairislefandango

@CrimsonAlligator Welcome! I'd love to see your needle felting! That yarn looks incredibly soft and snug! I'd also like to crochet some for myself!

@QuantumWeatherButterfly I hope the ribbing flies by!

I'm so annoyed MN won't let me upload my recent photos, I finished my DCs jumper and I'm chuffed with it, he wore it yesterday and I got so many compliments and I think it's the best thing I've made!

MerylSqueak · 09/12/2022 20:34

How are you doing @Fairislefandango ?

V. Excited - I may actually have some time to knit this weekend!

Fairislefandango · 09/12/2022 22:02

I feel really crappy actually, but thanks for asking! I think I might have tonsillitis or laryngitis. I can barely speak, the glands in my neck are up and I feel like I've got swollen lumps either side of my throat. And I keep having unstoppable coughing fits that almost make me sick. Sad

I've just watched a silly film and knitted some more of my endless sleeve scarf though! I need a second project so I don't get bored. I keep looking at Fairisle jumper and sock patterns... What I actually need to do is finish spinning my alpaca (hardly any left to do!) and decide on a pattefn for that!

MerylSqueak · 09/12/2022 23:46

Oh that sounds far too energetic for a poorly person. You need to rest. I can recommend making sheep decorations if you fancy. They take maybe an hour and then you get to choose a scarf colour. it's a free pattern on ravelry.

Fairislefandango · 10/12/2022 08:01

That sounds fun! We've got snow here. Not that much, but we are due more this morning. I don't feel like going anywhere.

CrimsonAlligator · 10/12/2022 09:53

Thanks for the welcome everyone! The yarn I’m using is Rowan Classic Alpaca. I love a bit of alpaca. It’s like knitting with a cloud 🥰

Sorry to hear you are not feeling great Fairislefandango. So many nasty bugs around at the moment.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 10/12/2022 10:34

Oh, lovely, @CrimsonAlligator!

I'm not loving working with the Stylecraft Special Aran - the more I do, the more plastic-y it feels - especially the ribbing, which is very stiff as the yarn is so structured. I don't regret it, the whole idea of the cardigan was to challenge myself with yarn I already had and it's definitely done that. But, I'm looking forward to working with some of the nicer yarn I got from my mum's stash.

StillNiceCardigan · 10/12/2022 19:32

Sorry you are not feeling great@Fairislefandango there’s a lot of bugs around at the moment. The cold is making my arthritis in my hand flare up so no knitting at the moment.

Welcome @CrimsonAlligator !

Sirzy · 11/12/2022 14:11

Jumping on board the thread. After years of failed attempts I taught myself to crochet a few months back and so I’m rather pleased with my first proper make.

looking forward to getting inspiration from everyone else

That’s lovely @Sirzy!

Sorry to hear you’re not well @Fairislefandango were all lousy with the colds and sore throats too and it’s miserableFlowers

I’m really struggling viewing this thread recently, the page keep refreshing and losing anything I type. It’s very annoying.

I’ve got two WIP’s on the go and I think I may have to rip one back because I’ve changed the gauge from the pattern and done the increase calculations wrong and it’s gone a bit funnel shaped at the neck.

We did make little Christmas birds at the last guild meeting so that’s one FO though Xmas Grin

Thank you all, I have tried and failed to learn many times before but a slow and steady approach seems to have worked! It’s far from perfect but ds has happily claimed it.

love the little bird spinme
